Fifth Pathway:
I spoke with the recruiter on Friday because I received a letter asking about my application and he said that they are working with the AMA to get keep the Fith Pathway open. He also asured me that I could alyways do the one year civil service and that it could be completed in the states.

He said there would be an announcement in a couple of weeks to keep an eye on their web site. When speaking with him I said that I would not be interested if there was no fifth and he seemed like heard that before and wrapped up the call.

Being a recruiter right now must really suck. If they know twice what we know, they still know nothing, but are still expected to convince students to make an informed decision based on lack of information It would be easier to teach an elephant to tap dance than to get the UAG to communicate.

The UAG stll has more to offer than other schools, for those that seek what the UAG offers. However, they never really capitalized on this. This place has SOOOOoooo much potential, but yet it is where it is.

I would like to encourage you to come for all the experience you will get here, but I cannot really say anying because I still know nothing. All I can say it, if you can wait for more information, "IF" there ever is more information, I would do so because this place really does offer a unique clinical experience.

It is a matter of fact that if school will not offer FPW, new students will not come . At the same time the present students will try to run away. This is bad. School should understand that and come up with final answer. Hiding will not help any one. There is a need forconfidence building .:confused :

Students came before there was a 5th pathway. However there also were not all the island schools.

Without the 5th pathway, the school will appeal to those that really want the experience of being here, and to those that will hate it here, but are desperate enough to go anywhere. The school would likely accept the latter for short-term finacial gain, and enter a long-term downward spiral. There is hope for the school without the 5th pathway, but it would have to be more open and honest, communicate real options, and be less audacious with the students it already has.

I really believe there is no concrete news. I do agree they should keep students up to date even if it is to say that they don't have anything at this time. The last time I called San Antonio they put out the anonymous post on our forum. I will seek to see if they can give us an weekly update on what is going on. Tomorrow I will call San Antonio and I will let you all know what is the mood over there.

I called the San Antonio office and talked to the person in charge to see what is really going on with the AMA-UAG saga, Mrs. L. She was very eloquent and this is what I remember from the conversation.
1. I asked what was really going on? she responded that The UAG is still fighting the decision, grandfathering and continuation of program was still in the air based on direct conversations with Dr. B and other entities capable of making the final decision. I told her I have talked to the AMA directly and the sentiment was that FPP was gone for good. She replied by saying that maybe I had talked to people that answer the phone but they were talking with the big boys.
2. I asked why the school hasnt been able to communicate with us in a direct manner. She mentioned that the administration thought that it was better for us to get information from the NASA reps without official school representation since the student relate and trust more other students. I mentioned it was a mistake and many students were very scared and frustrated with all the current situation where lack of communication and lack of real options were predominant from the school itself. She mentioned a meeting to discuss this issue and a possible meeting of the school reps with the students.
3. Besides the FPP program in question, she mentioned the other possibilities of doing 4,5,and 6 years in the US. She also mentioned the possibility of the program changing to 4 years. I told her that for us current students it wasn’t a possibility since we started a 5 year program with the possibility to default to 6 years so that Mexican educational law wouldn’t allow us to complete the new route. She mentioned that I was wrong and that anything is possible.
4. She finally said that if we were with the UAG in the good times, then why not in the bad times. To be patient and that information is coming soon.

All in all, I can only guess on what is coming and nothing she said was a real possibility or anything concrete as it is right now. Make your own decisions and see if you are willing to wait more and more which turns into more and more money. Good luck

if I remember something else I will post it or maybe you guys can ask questions and I can see if she mentioned anything about it. Right now I am a little confused with so many decisions to make and timing involved is of essence. I might recall some more info later. Good luck.
