i am leaning toward going to UAG in the fall, but people for some reason tend to think that Ross or SGU are the best because of their transfer options.
i plan on doing internal medicine or em, so does that mean any of these are good options for international schools? does one stand out? please someone tell me something OBJECTIVE!! i'm really confused..... |

Advice
Years ago, UAG was the major destination for US students seeking foreign medical degrees; however, the picture has changed with the advent of the carib schools.
The carib schools are now a better deal -- as indicated by their success. The carib schools only require 2 years abroad and provide US clinical experience. For many, these are real advantages. I believe the 5th pathway may now be in jeopardy which may require you to spend an extra year in Mexico -- which would be a major disadvantage of UAG. In my opinion, the only advantage of UAG is for someone who really wants to experience a very different culture, learn Spanish, etc. Many students have gone the UAG route; however, I believe the carib route is a more direct and flexible route to a US residency. Agree with the above poster, go to the Carib if your goal is to return to the US.
Many Carib schools are experiencing shortages with clinical rotations in the US (Ross). SGU is an exception, they recently secured an exclusive 100 million dollar contract with NY hospitals, giving them an additional 600 clinical spots. |

i know, i just see it as a great opportunity to live in mexico for 4 years. anyway, don't you think i can find a great career in primary care after going to UAG?? i don't want to do surgery or derm or anything...

Can't you have both....career and lifestyle. Go to med school in the Caribbean and eventually work in Mexico?

a month before i posted in this forum i felt about 80% sure that i would go to UAG, now i am completely confused. my main rebuttal to all these arguments is, if i have almost the same chance of securing an internal med residency after UAG (compared to SGU), i should go there. |
