If you see there website in the ECFMG route the year of internship and social service can now be done in the US. Well yeah its still an extra year and of course the extra fee of 3,500 dollars. But it just shows you that since this concern with the 5th pathway started they are doing something while still working to resolve the situation. So technically you can do three years in mexico and three years in the states since 4th year rotations can be done in both countries, of course if your able to obtain them. Nothing good comes to those who don't strive for the best.

Ask them what you'll be doing during that fifth and sixth year in the US - remember you're an unlicensed, ungraduated student from another country.

I understand the mentality of preparing ourselves emotionally and financially to be offical Mexican doctors with an extra unintended year BUT.
I've been given every reason to believe that even though the AMA and ACGME are through with 5PW, they are NOT through with the poor souls that signed up all the way through January of 2008 and genuinely want to agree on a solution that will then pull back in the remaining parties that were forced to issue dismal statements as well. They could have easily told us "sorry, but so sad for you," but they didn't. So I think it's okay to discuss the 6th year, but ya'll are making me depressed (granted I'm not forced to participate in these forums). It's strange too because I tend to lump myself in with the pessimests and prepare for the worst so that if the best happens, it's a pleasant surprise. Sometimes, the worst thing in life is waiting...and waiting... |
