PLease find it for us; we have been looking around and only bad news are found to be legitimate. PLease do so and enlighten us with your legitimate findings. Good luck

If you see there website in the ECFMG route the year of internship and social service can now be done in the US. Well yeah its still an extra year and of course the extra fee of 3,500 dollars. But it just shows you that since this concern with the 5th pathway started they are doing something while still working to resolve the situation. So technically you can do three years in mexico and three years in the states since 4th year rotations can be done in both countries, of course if your able to obtain them. Nothing good comes to those who don't strive for the best.

Let me just change your quote a little bit..." Nothing good comes to those who don't investigate for the RIGHT information"....I need to burst your bubble , sorry. Doing 4th and 5th year in the states is nothing new;it has been done before so There is nothing NEW here? 4th semester coops in the states is ONLY for a very few students not an EVERYBODY option. 5th semester has always been done in NY through the FPP. 6th semester now is the same as 4th year and limited to very few students. You might find some problems with Mexico, not UAG, giving you the titulo since your SS was done in the US rather than Mexico. See, if you are getting a Mexican titulo then you need to work for Mexico during your SS according to them. I think it was "Amazing A" that noted this and I investigated a little bit more. "El Diablo no sabe por diablo sino por viejo". Good luck

Ask them what you'll be doing during that fifth and sixth year in the US - remember you're an unlicensed, ungraduated student from another country.

I understand the mentality of preparing ourselves emotionally and financially to be offical Mexican doctors with an extra unintended year BUT.
I've been given every reason to believe that even though the AMA and ACGME are through with 5PW, they are NOT through with the poor souls that signed up all the way through January of 2008 and genuinely want to agree on a solution that will then pull back in the remaining parties that were forced to issue dismal statements as well. They could have easily told us "sorry, but so sad for you," but they didn't. So I think it's okay to discuss the 6th year, but ya'll are making me depressed (granted I'm not forced to participate in these forums). It's strange too because I tend to lump myself in with the pessimests and prepare for the worst so that if the best happens, it's a pleasant surprise.

Sometimes, the worst thing in life is waiting...and waiting...

It is ok to be hopeful but dont be a dreamer. There will be no grandfathering clause in this problem. Do your own homework and call the AMA. They will tell you everything that happened at the meeting and waht was discussed. BE a realist and accept your destiny whichever one you choose. The waiting and waiting will bring about 40-50K per year so dont wait too long. Good luck

You can either take the word of someone from AMA or read the transcript and decide for yourself. That's also called doing homework.
