6 yr route

thanks taxas student for the info, i guess i was wondering why is it not possible for UAG to allow its students 4-5 semesters in mexico then send them back to the US like the carrb school do, if these new carrb school are poping up all over the islands and become ackcredited so fast why cant uag take this route as well, assuming the 5th pathway appeal fails

also, i heard something from a friend of mine from NYMC who is doing her 5th pw, COULD BE RUMOR MAY BE TRUE, NOT 100% SURE, she asked her advisor why AMA did this and he claimed the 5th pw program in ponce PR had some issues. According to him, students were not going to the hospitals as they were sapposed to and the AMA found out about it.. I am not saying this was the only reason, but somehow these students were able to have friends of theirs lie for them

Even with the PR students' known "laid back" attitude, I still would be surprised at this level that they'd still be trying to get away with something so basic to their training...

HOWEVER...

I can all but guarantee that this had NOTHING to do with the AMA's decision. Why? Because the AMA got pressure from the FSMB and NBME (which operate one level above residency, which is another level above 5PW) regarding 5PW applicants post-residency reviewing individuals for actual licensure. Any shenanigans that happen during the 5PW program or any program for that matter are within the purvue of that program/institution; ie, it's an "internal matter." To use an identical analogy one level down, the ACGME isn't going to stop taking applicants from University of Hometown because it was reported that several students were cheating on the clinical clerkships--that's absurd. You can also bet your habichuelas that if Ponce were up to no good and that it was generally known, that NYMC and MSSOM wouldn't let them sink the ship.

k

u could be right, but keep in mind this info came from an advisor at NYMC and students in the PR FP program could have gotten away with this if the program had individuals in power who were not honest and lied, the AMA document was very vague and did not give specifics, but did mention something about students getting by that should not have, but did not mention what program it was in, u have to agree on one thing, the same high standards at NYMC and MSSOM are not adhered to in ponce PR and from what my two friends tell me who are current students at UAG, the PR students are allways finding a way to cheat on exams, even before entering the ponce FP

We cannot blame all Puerto Ricans or anyone else for that matter, even if some were cheating or whatever else. It is more about organization and opportunity than anything else. I have seen it since I started college. It is as old as school, itself, and is not limited to any one cultural background.

5th pathway going away - Evidence !! (not elig step 3)

check the updates on the official site of FSMB March 2008 update

am not allowed to post a link, but go to the official website of :
"Federation of State Medical Boards"
The site is fsmb followed by .org

1. When you are there, in search box, at top right hand corner type in :
fifth pathway program

2. When the links come up click on the the link marked with number 3, (the third link from the top) this will give you their updates

3. Look under the March updates, its right there in plain site.

AMA will withdraw from 5th pathway program, Jan 2009 last class accepted to be eligible for step 3.
