Deferment help for Jan 2008 entrants...

Hey ya'll. I'll be joining the uag in jan. as of right now the whole finAid is still in process, but I'd like to know from the current students, when did you submit your paperwork for deferment from your undergrad loans?

should i just send them to the SanAntonio office? and let them submit them?

thanks

sorry I cant help with that. I never had any loans for undergrad. Why dont you call san antonio and ask them directly or your lender?

Hi Spiderchic,

I, too, am starting in January and I called the San Antonio office asking the same thing. UAG provides a request form to defer your loans, but they much rather have you provide them with the request form used directly by your undergrad loan lender. My lender has the form available on their website, so I just downloaded it and printed out a copy. Your lender may need specific information that the UAG form may not have. I mailed this form to UAG in San Antonio and they will keep it in my financial file. UAG will not submit it until after classes begin (at least that's what I was told, so I am assuming I will probably have to pay my student loan payments at least up to the month of January). I mailed my form to San Antonio either way, so when January comes around I can just send them an e-mail reminder to send the form to my undergrad lender.

I hope this helps. I look forward to meeting you in January!

Thanks,

It has been almost 3 years for me, so I do not remember all the details. However, mine was simple because all my loans, including my consolidated undergrad loans, were through Sallie Mae. I might have sent them my acceptance letter and whatever form they wanted, but I do remember that there was not much to it. I called them and they told me what I needed.

i did mine like 2 weeks ago. you just print off the deferment app from the internet. fill it out, attach it to a letter addressed to the financial aid lady in san antonio stating what you want to be done. include bank info, their fax, number and address. take it the copy center across the street and have them fax it to her. she will then verify your enrollment anf fax it to your bank. you have like 6months after you graduate before you begin paying.

I only asked for a deferement when I took a year off to teach school.

Until then Sallie Mae and her friends kept up with me. They knew each year I had filled our a FAFSA and more money was sent to a school.

It is kind of hard to deny you knew a client was going to school when you sent $8000 along with him.

Deferement gets tricky when you are actually our of school. They defered my year off because I was working with low income minorities in the inner city and that just took a phone call.

Yes I am talking major bucks held up with just a phone call.

Relax, if they sent you a repayment notice, kindly call and tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine, you are still in school.
