making phone calls to the US

It is becoming extremely expensive to make call to the US using a pay phone. is there a cheaper way to do this? besides going into the internet. I bought a calling card for 100 pesos and it gave me 33 minutes only. I have my vonage but I havent been able to get my cable here connected. Megacable company will take 8-13 days to connect. Can you believe this? I have a vonage already bought and with service from the US. is there a way to connect this somewhere else? or do I have to wait for them to connect the internet. By the way, I ordered a 2Mb connection. is this good enough for vonage? I assume yes. Please help. I am spending too much money in phone calls.

Rasputin:

I just went through the same situation. I spent over $200 in calling cards before getting my cable internet and Vonage set up. It took Megable ten days to show up to my place. If you have the V-phone you can use it in Starbucks like some people do. Meanwhile, breath my friend, breath...

How is everyhting going with the vonage and what kind of internet speed did you get? 1Mb or 2Mb? how are the phone connection? phone calls are clear? I got the contract last monday so I wonder if there is a way to speed up the "process"? thanks

interesting I would never thought that I could use that phone here. That was the main reason I didnt buy it. damn. I mean it is only like 50 bucks. is there a way to connect my vonage if I get wireless form somebody else? I actully tried and it didnt work since I believe it has to be connected to the LAN directly or something like that. I am not very computer savy when it comes to stuff like that. Any input will be appreciated

Verizon cell phone

I actually talked to verizon wireless a few weeks ago when i renewed my contract. Currently i have a nationwide plan. Which is 49.99 a month, i asked about mexico and calling home the gentleman said that for an extra $10 a month i can use my cell in mexico as well, with the same plans that they use for the natiowide plan. I dont work for verizon and i am not trying to push any plan. I am also not sure of what the service is like. But this seemed like a great way to keep in touch and not break the bank.

Hope this helps!

I got the 1Mb connection. It's pretty good. I haven't had any problems with Vonage at all. Just one thing, I don't know if you were here few weeks ago when we had those rainy days. The electricy will go out for a few hours and bye, bye Vonage.

I do know about some people in the area using Verizon for cel phones, but like PaulyG said, they pay an extra fee. I canceled mine, because I didn't know. But about the internet deal, if I were you I would go back with them and ask for a specific day and time for your installation. That's what I did. You can't be waiting on them.

I got the 1MB and it works great. The phone connection and quality is good and clear. The only problem with Vonage is that when the electricity is gone, the Vonage is gone. About Verizon, I know people using the service, but like PaulyG said the paid an extra fee.

thanks man! I actually got the 2Mb since the guy that was living here changed form 1mb to 2mb thinking that the reason was the vonage phone. But I guess not? I might go back a set a day and change my plan then

last time I checked verizon doesnt have that plan anymore but maybe they put it back. It sounds like a good deal if it is still in place. I had sprint so no luck with them. I just went to magacable to speed up the process and they say that the earliest will be on wednesday at 7PM. I didnt know mexicans work that late! but she reassured me that it will be done. I hope so since I am spending too much freaking money on calls. Another question, I have a unblocked motorola razor cellular phone that used to be connected with cingular with, I guess, a telcel mexican chip using GSM. Can I use this phone in the US to make calls to the US in the US? I am just wonderying If I can use it while going back to the US during vacations. Anybody knows the rate? I went to Iusacell and they were not very helpful since I was using a telcel chip or phone connection!!!! I guess they wanted me to join them instead. Any answers will be appreciated. Thanks
