My Movistar bill $40 for approx. 30 hours of calling (i.e. 1700 minutes or so. . . .)

I'm super happy with their customer service too, although it's all in Spanish. I call them when the system drops my call and after 5-10 minutes or so I get the call refunded.

DIOS!!!!!! how can this happen? people dont check their balances online or something. You would have to be extremely careless to get a bill for 2k, 600 or 1200. For new students, DO NOT use your US phone here unless your are certain that you are not getting raped by this astronomous charges. Double check with your provider to see waht kind of plan you have for international calling. While here, buy phone cards like "amigo phone cards"; you can call 30 min for 100 pesos from a public phone and 100 minutes from a landline phone. I was suffering for spending maybe 40 dollars per week but spending the above numbers that some students have paid I would have commited suicide. Furthermore, if you bring your phone from the US, calling or receiving textmessages, voicemail and pictures will charge you so I would recommend not to use your phone unless you are completely certain of what your plan is and how everything is going to play while you are here. I actually turn off my phone while here so that nobody would call me a leave a voicemail message.....YES even if they call and you dont answer, the phone is on and they leave a message on your phone; you will get charge so be careful. Good luck

...but the true test is if you and a roommate can both use individual phones at the same time as you have a streaming porn video download. If not, I can foresee problems...

1. Vonage is working great from mexico. All you have to do is get a vonage service and a numer of the same area code in usa. Then take that phone and connect with fast internet service and you are on. You can talk unlimited to USA in 25$ . If you think you do not need unlimited time , I think, they give you 500 minutes per month in 15/16 $.
2. There is a service which can cost you 20$ a year . But you have to plug in your computer and the same way you can talk to whole USA unlimited. I do not remember the name . But you have to buy a jack in around 40/50 $ and yearly onlllllyyyyy 20.00 -I just got the name -Magicjack.Please try that and call all day.( magicJack)

I you do not mave cable yet, take your vonage and a phone to a friends place and connect it to their router. If you do not friends, start making them, it will help you in the long run.
