Sprint = 5 cents a minute (international roaming)
Skype.com = 2.1 cents/min (all you need is a PC - a headset is also a plus)
Vonage = Unlimited calls for $25/month (most UAG students use this)

I've also heard Altel and Verizon aren't bad, but I personally prefer the top three I listed above all.

Right now, I use Skype since I can make calls from my laptop just about anywhere I can hijack a wi-fi signal (i.e. Starbucks). I use mi Telcel cell to place calls in Mex... Skype costs ~3 cents/min to place calls to Mexican phones. All you need is $10 to start. The program you download for free... The clarity is good for what you pay for. I spent 3 hours on the phone today (using skype) and my family and friends never once complained about clarity.

For ~$20, you can even set up your own phone # and voicemail for 3 months, or you can drop $60/yr. Depending on how much you plan to use the phone, it may be cheaper than Vonage. It's your call.

I had sprint and it was 99 cents per minute so unless they changed the plan lately ( in less than a month) I think your information is wrong. Hopefully they did though

Telcel has just come out with a "plan" on the prepay phones where it is about $1usd for a 20-minute block. If you use 19 minutes, it is good. If you use 1 or 21 minutes, it is expensive (as in getting an answering machine).

iConnect has a pay-as-you go VOIP that is good, and cheaper if you do not talk enough to make the flat-rate Vonage worth what it costs.

I think the iConnect is more reliable from what I have heard, and I like the pay-as-you-go ($0.02/min) with $6.99 per month (also comes with free phone adapter... but have shipped to USA or you will never recieve it). Nothing is free if it has a monthly fee. It just depends on how much you talk as to which is cheaper for each person. Also, it is only $0.04 per minute to talk to hot chicks in Brazil... if anyone cares

make sure that you check the vonage.com continuosly regarding rates since according to them can be change at any time. I usually check my bill online and see how much they charged after I am done with the call. Just make sure Gonza, you dont want to be surprised with a big bill. So far so good though still 1cent per minute to Guadalajaran landline call. Cell phone calls are 8 cents per minute

(iconnect vs vonage)just calling the US you'd have to call for 900 mins or more a month to be better off with vonage. I'm at 500min so far...400 to go!

Apparently, you're right. The girl in class who had Sprint apparently got her bill back... $2k... OUCH! Well, Vonage/ skype / Telcel I guess, are the way to go.
