telmex office
Probably your best bet is the office, I tried the phone thing first and it didn't work out. If you go towards Plaza Mexico (where the closest walmart is) on aztecas (going north/south) go past the side of the plaza and come to a circle in a couple of blocks, go left from there and the telmex office is on the right maybe three blocks down.

Movistar cell phones have a long distance plan where 20 minutes to the US or Canada are $11.50. PESOS. That's right, $1.50 for 20 minutes. That comes to about 7.5 cents per minute. The only issue is that sometimes it drops your call or the network is busy, but it is not that frequent.
Local calls are $5.75 MEX for unlimited talk time (cells are $3 MEX per minute) withing Guad; within Mexico they're 20 minutes for that price. I picked one up and so far, so good. Also, for the first 6 months they doouble whatever you pay. So $500 pesos = $1000 credit. text messages are $0.10 cents mexican to send. If you receive ANYHTING, (including calls) it's no charge. The cheapest phone that I've seen is $40. Source (in Spanish): .: Movistar México :. Prepago Last edited by cpt.ricard; 08-02-2007 at 10:19 PM. |

That is interesting. A sales woman at Sam's Club had told me that Moviestar had the best price to the USA, but I never got any details. They are in some way tied to T-mobile, who roams on them when in Mexico, but for $1.84usd/minute, so I never assumed they would be cheap calling to the USA... but maybe they are. Good to know.

I finally got megacable to actually come and hook me up with the internet and cable. Couple of funny things;
1. the technician found and I actually went to the "asotea" ....roof for those who cant speak the language yet, to find out that more than half of the people here are stealing cable and internet from somebody else. There are actually only 3 active/paying cables and like 10 other line cables going "undercover" using splitters to at least 9 apartments. Interestingly, the technician didnt not disconnect anything and he was actually laughing at the situation. Incredible!!!! 2. I had cable from day one and I never connected the damn line to my TV. I am an idiot, I know. 3. I got the technician number so I might get "really" hook up in the future if you know what I mean. You got to love mexico!!!!!!
