Beating the Odds
So I have been reading this message board for several months and studying for the MCATs. I have been trying to make the final decision on what med school to go to. My academic situation is similar to all of you. It is my understanding that there is a lot of passionate people who want to be MD's but grades and MCAT scores have some how gotten in the way.
Also from what I gather the program is no cake walk and to succeed you need to be ready to work your a** off. But will it truly pay off? Now lets say I make into Guadalajara I beat the odds pass all of the USMLE's and reach the 5th pathway. How likely is it that I will find a residency in the US. Personally I would like to do general surgery or pediatrics, and possibly thoracic. I’ve read web site and peoples opinions but is their light at the end of the tunnel. Or is it going to be another situation where I will have to beg for a residency just like I begged to be admitted to medical school. I am worried that all my hard work will be in vain.
Thanks!
