This one really has me worried...
I agree with you all that the USMLE 1 pass rate is probably a moot point for all the reasons given. And I do appreciate the responses.
I do have a real concern and would appreciate more indepth responses rather than the stock "...then don't come here..." Go to the web site for the State Medical Board regarding physician applicants, http://www.tmb.state.tx.us/professio...applicants.php Select and download the list, Schools Whose Graduates Do Not Have To Prove Substantial Equivalence Of Their Education Go to the section for Mexico and notice that UAG is not listed among the 20 or so Mexican medical schools that are on the list. This is not any bull **** on my part. UAG used to be on this list...less two years ago I think. I was just browsing today and discovered it is no longer there. Do any folks from Texas have any insights...I mean the main UAG recruiting office is in San Antonio for god's sake. Can any of you ask your adminstration/faculty contacts what are the implications of being dropped from this list. I can offer guesses as good as the next person; however, it would be nice to get some substantial replies from individuals that are in the know regarding this, before we start speculating on the implications ourselves. I just looked at the list.
I assume you are trying to make a connection regarding issues you may encounter upon returning to Texas. The list does not really tell much because of the schools it has on it. For example, the list has many school in Mexico, including a few bull crap schools for homeopathy. As someone that has lived in Texas 18 years, I can tell you that Texas is more chaotic in some ways then Mexico could ever be (if you can imagine that). Personally, if Texas does not want me when I finish UAG, screw them. There are 49 other states. Quote:

Big Joe!
As for today I haven't got a definitive answer to my email to the NBME, they just sended a short email stating "We will review this information and as soon as we reach a conclusion, we will let you know" A nice way to say, please give me us some time. Now, about the passing rate, it's true that all the Medical schools in the US and canada (those that LCME certified) will receive their respective passing rate. But UAG is an FOREIGN Med school, so no information can be given outside the US... This is an actual AMA policy. Is not the UAG is hiding the info, simply... they don't provide it to the UAG. About the list... honestly I do not know what to tell you about i it and if UAG was there 2 or 3 years ago... The only thing I can tell you is that I am about to start residency in a Texas University and I haven't had any problems, and also, a 5th pathway UAG grad, that is the same university have not had any trouble to start his residency... so I really so not know what to make of this list. If you have any more concerns about UAG, please let me know... I do have a better prespective about UAG... Not jump into conclusion before knowing all the information available. I will answer them I soon as I can. Dr. Eduardo Rosas Blum |

We are all discussing USMLE pass rates and crap like that. I have seen many foreign doctors; doctors that dont come from UAG or any of the extremely expensive caribbean schools that pass the USMLEs with no problem. They actually pay for a Kaplan review and study like hell to pass. Furthermore, these doctors have to deal with the language problem and eventually they are succesful and practicing in the US. All that I am trying to say is that how you do in the USMLEs is mostly dependent on the individual not the school. You can go to Harvard and if you dont have what it takes you will fail the USMLEs. Medicine is medicine here, the US and pakistan. I am paying for UAG because it has a more straight forward approach to open the door through 5th pathway. Otherwise, I would go to U de G and pay not one single dollar.
