MCAT Prep review?? In 3 months

    Dear folks,

In dire need of some help in MCAT prep. If cost is no factor, (although it is); what would you do for yourselves if you had only 3 months to prepare for the MCAT for aug 19, 2006???

I seen some things on Ebay, but as as Willie Nelson sings: I'm on the road again. Kaplan folks suggested the online 24/7 access. Ebay had a lot of CD learning/review modules.

Please advise as time permits. I will need to prepare. Been out of school for 30 years for the premed stuff.

What's an analog to the BRS series but for the MCAT?

    Any exists?

I'm headed back to the Cayman tomorrow.

Thank you for all your help.

mcat I would suggest EK books with 1001 series as well as audio osmosis. I also used TPR hyperlearning books since I was also out of my prereqs for about 10 years!!!!

    Best bet, questions, questions, questions.

Get review books that have lots of questions and go through the questions. If you can't answer a question go to the review section or go back to the original texts from college.

to disagree a little bit with kapr on this one .I would recommend review books that are specifically for the mcat material that you are going to be tested on. Original texts from college are too broad and you might be studying or reviewing thing that really dont need for the mcat. Be specific and take lost of tests to review weaknesses but using resources specific for the mcat specially when you only have about 4 months to study.

    mcat

i just took the mcat in april, and i just studied off of kaplans books. i had the comprehensive review and some supplimental full lenght exams plus the lil end of chapter half exams. i have not recieved my score but i feel that best way to get things going is get confortable with the passage format. A lot of times the answer iis directly in the passage (biological sciences). the april mcat was heavy on experimental questions. TLC, bacterial cultivations, and genetic experiments. make sure you are confortable with those methos becuase they seem to ask questions based on such experiments. Kaplan didnt really go to much into experiments, but rather it a broad conceptual thing. maybe buy a lab manual for intro to cell physiology, cell processes, genetics, g chem, o chem and physics. Lab manuals touch on the very essential concepts and equations needed for the experiments that supplement the lectures. if i had to retake the mcat i would look at all my lab manuals and make sure i knew what was going on. to understand a lab, u must know the basics from lecture, so as u go through the labs and arnt sure with something, look at the kaplan review. keep it simple. ah, and make notes of every unintuitive concept. for example: sound travels slower in air compared to solid wall ( i missed this one on the mcat).

my friend had EK, she liked it........i took a look at it and turned away when i read what salty the kracker had to say. princeton review is very slow, it has questions after every concept...other than that it is similar to kaplan. EK is the different one, takes a diff approach. try one EK book and if u like it stick with it, if not then id suggest kaplan. only take the course if u feel like u really dont remember squart, or if you have a hard time making yourslef take full lenght practice exams.

For the money, Audio Osmosis is a lot of help. I listened to it some before my test, and did not do any formal studying (I did okay - over 24). I have them on MP3s in the USA, but just looked notw, and I do not think I have the file copy w/ me in MX.

Also, learn how to interpret their retarded reading sections ACCORDING TO THEIR INTERPETATIONS because it is ** and is nothing about English or comprehesion.

Of course, the USMLE is not about what you know, or how well you will do in med school, but a test of how well you can prepare for a test.

    Good luck.

Also, go to HearMore.com where you can buy a watch (for the deaf) that has a vibroalert countdown timer. Also, use a 0.9mm mechanical pencil (not a 0.5mm) so you do not waste any time blackening the scantron if you take the paper test.
