Question: Is it true that dsl/cable in GDL costs about $150 / month (US dollars)? If not, how much does it cost? I think my mexican friend is pulling my leg with this..

I get digital cable and internet for $90. About the same as in the states.

Regular cable without internet is about 35 - 40

The gym on Ave. Xochilt is Gold's and I believe is better than the on Plaza Bonita. Great Cardio work outs too. Aslo if interested, the Muay Thai teachers there are great. They have a great reputation in Thailand, U.S. and of course Mexico. I believe you can now pay monthly.

Thanks. I will look at it. I have to drive to the one on Plaza Bonita anyway, so what is a few more minutes to go to a better gym that will not kill me with cancer

Payments to UAG - Important Information!

You will make payments to UAG for things such as tuition, paying for "extraordinarios" (your 3rd chance to take a final exam), and a $300 "seat holding fee" (even if you already paid for the next semester, they have a strange rule of making you pay an extra deposit to hold your seat in the class).

All this is not too bad. However, UAG does not make complete use of networking computers. It seems that if you pay one part of UAG, another part still does not know that you paid it unless you take them a physical copy of your receipt. This still would not be too bad if it was better communicated to the students.

Therefore, I am posting this to tell you

Take your receipt copy to this office at ICB, near the ATM, that is near the west entrance (there is only one ATM at ICB).

Take them a copy of EVERY RECEIPT!

Your receipt you are taking them will look like this:

great counterfeit "adolfo hitler". I am buying a new laptop this week acgt..... Which one would you recommend? I am going to use it a lot to keep in touch with family and friends as well as to use in the school. What requirements are absolutely necessary for the laptop to have? a particular brand works better? is there wireless internet on campus? areas? restaurants?. Thanks

Hola Brillo,

Thanks.

As for laptops, I am not the expert in that area. I always have a stationary PC, and although I have a laptop, too, I have never purchased one new. I have always gone to pawn shops and purchased non-functioning ones to repair. I have had excellent luck with Acer (I am sure that is not this first one that comes to anyone's mind) because I could get parts for it out of central Texas. I know Toshiba was sued over their laptops, so they might not be the best.

Regarding wireless, I am again not the best one to ask. I think Karplus has tried a few places, so maybe he will answer. There is wireless on campus, but I have never used it.

Hardware features are about the same more or less on most. Internal CD w/ burner, etc. One thing I would see if you can find is one with the highest speed (RPM) hard drive you can find. I build my own PCs, so when they first offered 7200rpm hard drives over the standard 5400rpm, the computer was much faster regardless of processor speed because it could seek information faster from the drive. Laptops have traditionally been slower to consume less power, and many were below 5400rpm. I had read a few years ago that they were going to make a 7200rpm for laptops, so I would look to see if they are offered yet.

I am also partial to AMD processors, but that is just what I have used in all my computers for a while.

One feature that may be nice if you have a phone or mobile device you want to sync with Outlook, is an infrared port because you can easily share and sync things with some other computers and some cell phones and PDAs.
