In addition to Medstud2b, la UCE is one of the 2 medical schools in the DR that allow their students to do all elective rotations in the US.... They have very impressive affiliations! La UNPHU and la UCE are the only 2 medical schools in the D.R. that are approved by California... I mention these two because they are the ones that the vast majority of US & Canadian students enroll into. La UNPHU has an english program that they just started back in early Jan 05, but you can get in contact with the school to verify if they still are in fact offering an english program.

Also, to this UCE2GO person..... bashing the education and profs at UNIBE is very immature and inappropriate. I am currently in the English program and I can vouch for all of the profs here... they do a great job with their teachings! Of course, this will never be like the States where everything is spoonfeed to you, you have to bust your rears and study for the USMLE by yourself.... no one school in the D.R. is built to prepare they're students for the USMLE Step 1 & Step 2CD,CK exams! Most of the programs have incorporated Kaplan into their programs, which is offered for those students interested in taking such review programs after they have completed their 5th semester. In addition, UNIBE is now offering USMLE review progams from Falcon Review..... A number of students have scored extremely well on the USMLE Step 1..... I don't think bashing the school does much for you UCE2GO.

The best thing for prospective students is to do the best research possible..... I'm sure that there are several number of current students from most medical schools here in the D.R. that are willing to help you.... even I would be able to give you some advice, or maybe guide you into what might suite you and your needs as far as education goes! La UCE is a very popular choice for most students, it's been around for years to come, and the best part about it is the California approval for those who are interested in ultimately practicing in Cali or one of the other 50 states... and la UCE's affiliations with the US too.... I know several doctors that are currently practicing now that have attending school from INTEC, UNIBE, UCE, and UNPHU.... if you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or just post them, and wait for the sincere replyers..... not students that bash other schools.

Best wishes to all,

D

My friends i´m not lying. Come see alllll the schools for yourself. The worst city you can live is San pedro de marcoris. Hey but it is cheap, if that counts! But remenber you will get charged for apartments in dollars, all the motoconchos know were you live and when you change your school check, at what time your not at home! it is a small city and a very dangerous one. but if you still don´t think i saying the truth ask any dominican not from san pedro and they will tell the city is caliente! my advice go check out the school, sit in a classroom and make sure you like the labs. And remenber no clinicals in the us.

UCE $ San Pedro

Yes I've sat in the classrooms and in the lavs and it is hot and it is cheap and it is a small town and the food at the stores is a little expensive and I payed rent in dollars and it costs $200 a month for rent and I wanted school to be over sooooo many times and I guess one cannot do rotations in the states (Observerships), geeee the sky is falling; but guess what, I am an M.D.!!!!

You are correct, one needs to go there and check it out. Talk with the students and not just one student, try to find a variety of students to talk to!!

medstud2b, M.D., UCE

uce2go: i just got back from my usual annual or twice annual visit and you absolutely do not know what you are talking about. My advice to all who read your messages is to ignore what you say totally. I visited the entire south and the DR is still so safe and friendly. Please stop this false claim about the DR. Anything 'bad' can happen anwhere anytime anyhow.

Sure you can become an MD as long as you pass your boards. Take avantage of a town that doesn´t have even a movie theater and study for the boards. Good luck!

I'd rather do my rotations in D.R.... you get to do things yourself... and yes, SPM is dangerous (I know how dangerous it can be, I got robbed, well over $3000). Just make sure you're home early and don't leave home if you have a choice... sacrifice yourself the years you're here, you'll reap greater rewards when you're done. Peace.
