Some advice for someone who is considering UNIBE, PLS!

Hello!
So glad I found this forum.
I'm 35 years old and have been out of school for quite sometime now......never finished my bachelors in liberal arts. I have very limited scientific background but wish to become a doctor and am willing to sacrifice what ever time may be necessary to accomplish my goal. Not to toot my own horn, but I am very intelligent and when I was in school, had very good study habits. I have been living in the Dominican Republic for the past 5 years (husband is Dominican)so accustoming myself to the culture is not an obstacle for me; housing is not an issue either because I alreay live here, have car, etc......My question is, what do you suggest I do in order to prepare myself fully for the journey ahead.......I was thinking of going to UASD (already have Dominican citizenship so I would'nt have to pay) and majoring in Biology for two years, then transferring to UNIBE to study medicine, or should I just skip all that and go directly to pre-med......I definately want to practice in the States so taking and passing the USMLE and the CSA is definately important to me, although I too want to practice medicine here....so many poor people in need of healthcare, I couldn't just abandon ship....but USA lisencure is definately important to me. The fact that UNIBE is not Cal certified is a bit troubling to me since California tends to set precedents and other progressive states tend to follow suit but I want to study medicine in English (afraid that if I study in Spanish I may get confused on the USMLE). I know this is alot to process but any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated. ......... Thanx!

Don't Be Confused!

First of all you need not worry about California. UNIBE has been around for a while now and has a very good image among Program Directors, and it is not just the state that makes those kinds of decisions, rather it is the medical doctors and healthcare personnel. You have to understand the legal aspects of that.
Second, you need to go directly to the premed program for the following reasons. 1. You would be better oriented for what lies ahead at UNIBE, and you would be able to flow directly into the MD program. You would also be in a position to make very valuable assessments of how to study for the USMLE (I understand that that is important to you). Obtaining a degree in Biology is good, however, you should spend your time very wisely, you want to be a medical doctor and at this stage, from what I am hearing, you are ready to take the challenge and plunge into medicine. You are motivated and you have a deep gut instinct that you can accomplish your goals. Don’t let that motivation and confidence fade, now is the time to take the challenge. Some people would tell you otherwise, but no one knows you like you. I say to you, DO IT. DO IT NOW. DON’T WAIT YOU WOULD NOT BE THE FIRST TO DO IT IN THIS FASHION. AND ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL!
