Clinicals in DR or in US?

Does UNIBE offer clinical rotations in the US, or must those be done in DR?
I have also heard of a recent addition to the program, that they require a one year mandatory residency in DR before you can come to the US. Does anyone have any info on this subject?
If clinicals must be done in DR, then an advantage of going to other Carib schools may be the option to do rotations in US, correct?

CLINICAL ROTATIONS

Unibe requires a year of Internado (Internship) prior to graduation. This is part of the official curriculum prior to awarding the M.D. degree. This is a relatively new requirement (3 or 4 years) and was instituted when the U.S. Department of Education stated foreign graduates must be qualified to be licensed in the host country. To be licensed in the D.R. requires a year of internship. It also requires a year of pasentia but this is considered social service requirement.

There is no requirement for residency in the USA per se.

Currently Unibe allows one semester of the internado year to be done in a foreign country (USA, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Germany to mention a few). But ONLY one semester.

Clinical rotations in any off shore facility should be carefully evaluated because some consist of simply shadowing a physician around and no active participation. And above all, clinical rotations in the USA are no guarantee of a residency position. ECH
