thinking of applying to the spanish program instead

Hey everyone,
I am in the process of sending off my application to UNIBE for entry next year. I was planning to apply to the english program. But I did some more research on the forum and found that UNIBE's spanish program is not as long as I originally thought (only 5 years, maybe less if i get credits from my physiology/psychology undergrad degree), and of course it is substantially cheaper.
I have decent knowledge of spanish (enough to navigate through the spanish part of the UNIBE website, and get the gist of what is being said).
I just have a few of questions:
1) does the spanish program accept students in 3 intakes (may, september, january) or do they just have one entry in september?

2) would it be wise to take a full semester of spanish courses at UNIBE and then enter the spanish medical program in the next semester, or can I do the spanish courses concurrently with the medical program?

3) is there are language requirement or exam that I have to pass to enter the program (like in english speaking schools...TOEFL..or ESL)

4) Is the tuition of RD$24,000 for the WHOLE year, or per semester?

5) Is it HARDER for a non-dominican student to be accepted into the spanish program than into the english program?

Thanks
Sierra

unibe spanish

hello and good luck on your venture

1- yes the make admissions three times a year may, september and january

2- it would be wise to take as much courses in spanish as posible so you can improve your skills in the language. they run the spanish and english medical programs together and as far as I know you can take classes on both.

3- no entrance exams are required.

4- it makes sense since all dominicans students HAVE TO BE in the spanish program since the english program is for non dominicans only.

I hope you can find this info useful and again good luck .
Pedro.

Hi,

If I were you i would check directly with the university and verify that the tuition rates you quote for UNIBE's spanish program also apply to foriegn students in that program. Generally speaking, different tuition rates apply to foreigners, regardless of the program they elect to be in, such is the case at UTESA which also has an english program. At INTEC, for instance, and UCE as well, the tuition for foreigners and dominicans is vastly different regardless of the fact that there is only one program at both these schools, a spanish program. I find it unlikely that UNIBE would be different.

Take care and God Bless
Ozzie.

some answers

2) would it be wise to take a full semester of spanish courses at UNIBE and then enter the spanish medical program in the next semester, or can I do the spanish courses concurrently with the medical program?

From what I understand, the Spanish and English program are both very demanding. When in the English program the do supplement you medical learning with "basic spanish". When in the spanish program, the supplement your studies with "basic" english

3) is there are language requirement or exam that I have to pass to enter the program (like in english speaking schools...TOEFL..or ESL)

No exams are necessary

4) Is the tuition of RD$24,000 for the WHOLE year, or per semester?

Not sure. Why not call the admissions office and ask?The majority of the people speak good spanish. There is a 1800 number that can be found on the website

5) Is it HARDER for a non-dominican student to be accepted into the spanish program than into the english program?

not sure

Good luck to you Sierra
