Thread: UCNE - Universidad Catolica Nordestana

I'm Puerto Rican and I am looking to pursue a career in Medicine. I saw many options in RD because of its low cost and MCAT it's not a requisite. What I am asking is if anyone studied in the UCNE or knows anyone who study there and what it's his opinion about the university? I am considering UCNE because they gave me a very good orientation, the program seems to be very good and it's accredited in my country. How do you rate UCNE against other universities of RD? It is safe to live in San Francisco? Do they have good teachers? Why does anyone in here does not know or mention this university? Thanks in advance, your answer will be important in how do I make my decision.

Really informative post, by the way guys did you know what institutions (medical schools in DR) are requiring the MCAT?

I have applied to Nordestana and got in for this May 2012...However, I do not know if I can start this semester.... so I asked the office in PR and they told me that I can go for Sept. but I will need to take the MCAT....from what I know Unibe requires MCAT and now UCNE...they did not tell me what score you will need to get in.

I am thinking in going there---If they let me in--- in Jan 2013, hopefully enter at the Medcine level, since I got all the pre-med done here in the US. How good is your spanish? maybe you can help me out when I get there in jan-2013?
by the way man... who can give me info about how to start applying at UCNE? I called the woman there, but ... Im still waiting for an email from them with all the info. If you got this email with all the info? would you be kind to forward it to me? so I can start with all the paperwork? What level you gonna start there? pre-med or medicine level? Do you have the pensul from UCNE? so I can compare if I got all the pre-med done?
I will get my ** in Bio minor in Chem here... but that is untill december this year.... So, maybe I need to take an aditional course to fullfit the pre-med there... I do not want to start at pre-med level...so if you could also send or post here the pensul too? sorry friend...Im asking to much from you, anyway... if you can help I will apriciated it, if not.. cool too friend LOL.

Hi Frogger... all I did basically was send an email to ucnepr@yahoo.com asking for admission's info and they sent it all... I have all the paperwork required to apply info and the pensum in my email.... I applied for May but I may not be able togo this semester and instead I will defer until Sept. or Jan 2013.... But I will have to take the MCAT which will be required to start at the med level...Anyway, send me ur email and I will forward everything... Im new here so I dontknow how this work lol

Thank you cquin008, it looks like a "tendency" towards the MCAT as a new requirement for admission on Dominican Med Schools. I think that one of the attributes, (aside from the "price tag") that made attractive Dominican Med Schools is fading away. Never mind, again thanks for the reply. I hope you the best on the pursuit of your noble goal.

About your concern of completing all the requirements for a premed, as far as you complete a Bachelor degree on Science (Natural Sciences) I think you will be OK. I have been told that in DR with the B.S. you could be considered to begin med school at a basic sciences level (one step after pre-med), I used the word considered because each school have their own criteria deciding that. Among the factors used to be "considered" are your major, your overall GPA, your science GPA, from now on maybe your MCAT's, interview... Said that, I you plan to go to UCNE there technically you can't begin fully on basic sciences level until you take two DR pre-med requirements: orientacion universitaria (some kind of university orientation) and historia social dominicana (social dominican history). Usually the students, take those courses as a single day seminars days before the semester begins. Hope this lines help you, best regards.

Cquin008 can you forward that email to me, perhaps? I've emailed them over a week ago and no answer. I'd really like to take a look at the pensum.

Any Updates on anyones status? (no one seems to answer as much on VMD...it's like a dead town....guess everyone's busy with school or just dont care...lol)

At any rate, I finally was able to put the entire application packet together and sent it off..I applied for September...but will probably have to defer it till January 2013.
