Thread: UCNE - Universidad Catolica Nordestana

I'm Puerto Rican and I am looking to pursue a career in Medicine. I saw many options in RD because of its low cost and MCAT it's not a requisite. What I am asking is if anyone studied in the UCNE or knows anyone who study there and what it's his opinion about the university? I am considering UCNE because they gave me a very good orientation, the program seems to be very good and it's accredited in my country. How do you rate UCNE against other universities of RD? It is safe to live in San Francisco? Do they have good teachers? Why does anyone in here does not know or mention this university? Thanks in advance, your answer will be important in how do I make my decision.

U remind me of a classmate that had 2 kids, it was really tough for her and for family as well, the husband went overthere to work, but acouple of months later had to return to US. Yes, ur husband can find a job but they will pay him peanuts, and it wont be enough to leave a descent lifestyle. About the bilingual schools i remember she had her kids in one, (by the way those are the most expensive ones) i remember her saying that she paid for her kids as much as she was paying in unibe. I dont know if the other cities have biligual schools, maybe santiago but i hardly think anyother one.

Now what i advise u is to do all ur premed courses in USA, see if ur husband can get a job through the military or open up a small business (that where ur creativity comes in) that way ur husband will have a more flexible schedule to help u with the kids. Trust me med school is hard,and very time demanding, u are not gonna have time for anything, so if u guys can do that , that would be great.

Now, when i mean a small business, dont think u need alot of money, or the hassle of getting permits etc... it could be something like a small sandwich place, internet cafe, or renting cars to foreign students (a friend used to do that , he would buy cheap cars 2000 dollars or 3000 thousand and rent them by week to the students) aim for the foreign students that will assure u that u will get paid You have to see what is lacking, dont try to copy another business.

U can do that and if it doesnt work out after ur fifth semester , take the step and transfer out, to a school that has there rotations in the states.

Ohhhh take a trip to the land and see how everything is, im pretty sure that ur not gonna want to leave anywhere else that is not the capital mostly because of ur kids.

Well I have seen the dental students and etc but dont know much of it... Again try to comunicate with the respecting admissions offices of the different schools...

Mixmasta MD could probably shed more light into the subject I can tell you its a beautiful campus and the Capital has just about everything you could wish for! (commodities wise) and that the school is good! No school US or International is perfect! but its a good school for my taste its over price! I did agree with the $5k+ something they where charging but now with the $7k+ I don't agree and Housing is Much more expensive! BUT I think if you can afford it its worth it they have Kaplan program right on campus! etc etc take a trip down and see for yourself!

Continuing with the thread, have anyone know if UCNE is requiring the MCAT for admissions (of IMG's) to the medicine program? Have heard that UNIBE is already requiring the MCAT and UCNE will be soon. (if not now???)

I have a question about federal loans at UCNE... recently i heard that the university will not be able to provide those loans starting 2012, similar to PUCMM... Anyone can confirm or reject that?

To my knowledge everything is in order with the student loans at least until today I will verify further and keep you posted...

Thanks for the good information, I had been looking into PUCMM but safety and life style were things that had me concerned. After reading your post I decided I am going to look into UCNE and do some research to see if which one would suit my situation better. UNCE is a Dump, its not really acredited its only recognize by Puerto Rico, not acredited, The 50 states in the USA allow anyone who passes the USMLE to pratice medicine in the US and it doesnt matter where you graduated from. UNCE professors are out of date and are byass with international student, its facility is super rural, dificult acess you most have a car for convinience. Safety is not enough excuse to choose UNCE over PUCMM, its like choosing a volky over a FERRarii!
