    UCNE - Universidad Catolica Nordestana

I'm Puerto Rican and I am looking to pursue a career in Medicine. I saw many options in RD because of its low cost and MCAT it's not a requisite. What I am asking is if anyone studied in the UCNE or knows anyone who study there and what it's his opinion about the university? I am considering UCNE because they gave me a very good orientation, the program seems to be very good and it's accredited in my country. How do you rate UCNE against other universities of RD? It is safe to live in San Francisco? Do they have good teachers? Why does anyone in here does not know or mention this university? Thanks in advance, your answer will be important in how do I make my decision.

I cannot post email addresses or links here yet (I have only 17 posts here and they require you 20 posts before that) but you can find their email address at the University's site.

Admissions for international students are handled by the University's office located in Puerto Rico.

Dr. Boyd Collazo is the department director. Vivian Esquilin is an admissions officer. Both are great persons and they will help you.

I can imagine how you feel. I have read, talked and corresponded with several persons for months about that place. (Is depressing even talking about it.)

Today we had a very special meeting at the Nordestana's facilities located here in Puerto Rico in which around 25 new soon to be Nordestana’s students met and visit with one another. It was a very friendly and cheerful gathering organized and presided by Dr. Collazo and Vivian.

At the beginning we had a live video conference in which the Reverend Father Dr. Ramon Alfredo de la Cruz Baldera, Nordestana’s University Rector, talked to us and sent us his greetings and blessings. It was a very special, cheerful and motivational message.

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know part of the group of new students that will begin this next January. I forgot to ask the final number, but around 45 new international students will begin this next January. That does not include the number of Dominicans that will begin too which I presume may be much higher. ( I will find out the final numbers on both figures.)

Among those I met and spend time talking with, were three UCE's students that after 2 years there were lucky enough to transfer out to Nordestana to begin this next January. They confirmed me in their conversations the bad things I have read and heard by different sources and persons, about that place. (It is sad to say it, but it must be said, for the benefit of others.)

When I use the term "lucky", I do not use it lightly. Over 200 students from UCE requested admission to Nordestana for this next period. Over two hundred!

Out of those over 200 admisions requests, Nordestana accepted only around 20. The main reason? UCE did not sent the transcripts. Would not send them. End of story.

I feel sad for all those persons.

    Hope this helps you.

    I wish you the best.

Hi, my question is, It is a requirement of graduation for UCNE have passed USMLE exams, such as UCE and UNIBE?

Not to my knowledge...! You take them to be able to be a Doctor (MD) in the United States... Hence USMLE... Unibe and UCE Just use it as a marketing gimmick... So people think that makes them better... To my Knowledge Neither UCNE nor PUCMM Require you pass the steps to graduate!

    its not a marketing gimmick

Unibe as many other foreign schools which offer student loans are required to have a certain passing rate for the USMLE, this is something new for all foreign medical schools bc the truth is that alot of students take the loans and dont take the usmle (or worse they dont pass it) and they disappear.

Ok So I will rephrase its not a Marketing gimmick its a way to try and keep their numbers high because if not they loose their student loans... but PUCMM and UCNE Do not require you to pass the USMLE Steps UP Until NOW! nobody knows if they change in the near or distant future...

Trustme they are going to change

Trust me bro, they are going to have to change that, if they dont wanna lose their loan accreditation, as UNPHU did along time ago bc of bad administration. Schools overthere will tell u anything to enroll, bc they see foreigners como las gallinas de los huevos de oro.

I am also thinking of moving to Dominican Republic to study medicine. At the current moment I am doing a second bachelor's in Biology in miami, florida but I think this is going to take me for ever here. I have two small children and if I move I would like to take them with me. Any of you have information on the schools available for my kids (elementary schools-bilengual). My husband is a reservist in US air force (dominican descent) and I would like him to also go with me while I study in DR. What are the chances of him finding employment there? So many questions and concerns.. Are there any unce representatives in Miami or USA?

Well if you are considering UCNE The only advice that I could give you is (787) 240-1030 and call there international students affair offices located in Puerto Rico. And No they don't have offices in Miami. About work in the dominican republic and him being a reservist airman that would be tricky... And he should ask his CO if he can and whatnot... And about the shools and etc I'm pretty sure the international students affair offices could tell you more. There are also other universities UNIBE and PUCMM. Don't recomend UCE right now. Hope this helps and if someone else has something more or better to add please do! Have a nice day!
