Anyone attending INTEC in May 2004?

Hey guys, after juggling my options in the DR I've opted for INTEC. I'm wondering if anyone else has considered INTEC or is already there, if so I'd love to hear from you. Drop me a line. God Bless.
Ozzie

howdy

Hey Folk, tuition at INTEC for extranjeros is US$ 75.00 per credit hour, each trimester is 18 credits save for a couple that are 17 and a couple that are 19. Each semester you pay US$150.00 dollar inscription fee. So for the year it comes to about US$ 6,000.00 Half the price of UNIBE and a bit less than UTESA. INTEC is light years beyond UTESA with regards to professionalism and treatment of its students, you don't get mired down in red-tape to the degree that you do in UTESA, and you have friendly and helpful people at your disposal who will help you out and who genuinely care about your problem. I didn't experience any of that at UTESA and saw a program that was in in peril of closing up (at least the english section) INTEC is a solid program with a great reputation everywhere you ask, highly regarded as the best med program in the capital, with perhaps UNIBE as a peer. I hadn't considered it before because the program is in spanish. However I've quickly come to realize that the so-called "english" programs are more often than not taught by professors whose english is sketchy at best, and more importantly it's only for the basic sciences! Though I will have the added pressure of teaching myself the english medical terminology while I'm being taught in spanish I think it's well worth it for the increase in quality of school I"m attending. One thing I think many applicants don't realize is that the english programs only offer you your basic sciences in english, the remainder of your education (and life in general in RD) is obviously in spanish. You will invariably have to learn the terminology you learned in english all over again in spanish in order to function on par with your peers in the hospitals. This is my personal assessment, each of you has to make their own call obviously. Also of importantance for me was the difference in price...UNIBE is $12,000.00, that's a whole lot of money, I think before you drop that wad of money on a school that's charging twice what any other school in the DR is charging, you owe it to yourself to consider INTEC (if you speak spanish, if you don't you'll have to learn it sooner than later). INTEC is also a title IV school so you qualify for the same aid as you would at UNIBE, and at half the tuition you get to pocket twice as much money in the form of refund checks. Those are my two cents God Bless and take care.
Ozzie.

INTEC and UNIBE

Yes Ozzie, INTEC is a good University in the DR too, UTESA is not that great in my opinion. INTEC, PUCMM and UNIBE (UNPHU few years ago) have the best med program in the DR, there is no 1, 2, 3 places, because these Universities Med School contact each other, plus sometimes share the same teachers.

One different between UNIBE and INTEC is mostly the LABS, UNIBE has currently the most modern labs in the country for a Univ., but not only LABS make good proffesionals . Also INTEC teaches per 3 months and UNIBE per 4 months, usually you get out at around 2 months and 1 to 2 weeks in INTEC, in UNIBE will be like 3 months to 2-3 weeks, so 2 periods at INTEC are equal to one at UNIBE (of course moneywise). Yes it merely depends on what you want, either pick UNIBE or INTEC, both are good schools.

One word of advice Ozzie, don't believe too much your dominican colleagues about INTEC's the hardest University, they tend to exagerate, there have been objective tests, an a graduate from PUCMM, INTEC or UNIBE are very qualified on the medicine field.
