absolutely right. i am also an uce graduate. while some professors are quite good and some classes will teach you meaningful things( thank you Drs.Rene Garcia and Carlos *****) others are nothing but a waste of time so you know that you are on your own. Here is my story:
I passed the step 1 at the beginning of my internship year after spending more than 10 months studying, sometimes until I saw the sun coming out, under you know wich conditions(under a candle sometimes and no fan running). the step 2 I took it at the end of med school and the cs 2 months later. I did real well (scored 95 on both the cs passed it first attempt) and did the internship year back in puerto rico. Now I am an intern of surgery in the UPR program and doing fairly well. I thought it was impossible for a foreign medical graduate to get a categorical spot like mine, but there I am and will finish my residency with the honor of being the only fmg on the team. So get down to business, forget about all the temptations going on around you( parties, cheap booze and women and cheap five stars hotels ) and get all the education available.Get your mind strong and focused and put the name of the med school at a higher position. It's the only way to end the discrimination against fmg's. I also have some of my friends and study partners with a good spot at programs in the US . So, as you can see there's nothing that can't be done with hard work and dedication. By the way ,if someone could give me news of what's going on in uce lately i'll appreciate it very much. |

Inspiring
Hey that is an inspiring story. Its good to know that others have been through the same stuff and succeeded. Do you think that Rene and carlos helped you prep for your boards? I think those are 2 of the best teachers around anywhere.

even in the usa they can throw as much board relevant material at you as possible, it remains UP TO YOU what you do with it.
at uce, unibe, or javeriana, eat board review materials for breakfast, lunch and dinner. med college ANYWHERE can become an enjoyable and interesting precious few years that you may wish you could return to when you are in the day to day practice/business of medicine.

AMEN ! This comes in at the right moment Thanks for this boost. Preparing for this exam, which I just figured it out, is not that easy. Too much stuff to read and too many temptations that can deter one's mind. Thanks again!
