Did anyone apply for residency while studying in the DR?

Hi, I will be relocating in Jan. 08 to the DR (I will be attending INTEC) but I was wondering if anyone has applied for residency while studying in the DR. I ask because I will be moving with my husband who is planning to work since I will be studying full time. I read that permanent residency is required to work in the DR. Does anyone have any info on their expirience??? thanks

YES, To work legally in the Dominican Republic one has to be a "Resident" which is similar to the "green card" in the USA. It takes some time and can be expensive. I strongly suggest you seek legal advice ASAP to facilitate this. I know of two students who gained residency but both married Dominicans which greatly facilitates the process. Good luck.
