I am going to be traveling next week to the DR to take the admissions exam for INTEC. Can anyone give me an idea of what to expect in this exam (prueba de aptitud academica)?? I am not sure what to review and refresh in my mind, mostly the math parts, plus for the first time I will be tested in spanish. I took my SATs here in the US years ago, is it similar? I'm not sure how to prep for it, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey,
The aptitude test is given to students entering university in the country by the secretaria de educacion. Don't sweat it...math..language comprehension...a little science....its really more a psych evaluation than anything else. I've never heard of a local o extranjero who failed it. If your spanish is shaky you can take in a dictionary (english-spanish..not a word definition one)...I did when i took the test over a year ago. Intec also has its own spanish proficiency exam for non native spanish speakers. Pretty straight forward....read passages...answer questions...then write a short essay on a topic at the end. The other test which everyone has to take is the ELASH exam...an english proficiency exam....biggest waste of time ever. Even if you've been speaking english since you stopped doing goo-goo gaa-gaa...you gotta take it! there's 2 hours of your life you'll never get back:P Its not hard to get into INTEC...70% (or B) in high school or college...and you're pretty much guaranteed a spot. The trick is keepin your butt here and keeping up....i can tell you about 10 people who started off with me...and have either changed majors...are held back doing the same subjects over and over....or basically left school altogether... Intec has a reputation of being hard....the work isnt hard.....its just alot of it...given to you in a short amount of time! But u get used to it. Just work hard....I came in with 6 months of spanish last year....transferred credits from my first degree...now kickin butt with a 3.6GPA and clinicals start in may! Good luck!
