HOMS Hospital in Santiago

HOMS (Hospital Metropolitano de Santiago) is being inaugurated later this year. Do you think that the opening of this hospital and already considered "the most modern in the caribbean and one of the most modern in Latin America" affect Dominican medical students for good or bad? Will it play a role when doing clinicals?

Professors Make The Hospital, Not Bricks And Mortar

Maddy, it is not the structure of a hospital that makes it good or even great. It is the teaching that goes on within the walls. My medical school hospital was built in the Depression Era 1929 by the City of Louisville and by the time I got there some 35 years later it was not in very good shape. To be honest, it was a dump, but some of the best teachers in the medical educational system were there and the learning experience was awesome. We students would hang around on our time off for fear we would miss something. All the well-to-do people always instructed ambulances on an Emergency run to take them to “General” where they felt the care was excellent. Said they could convalesce later in a more upscale place but for their “life and death” care they preferred “General”!

I agree with the above statement 100%
In the Est of the country in San Pedro, they move the old George Hospital to the "brand new and modern" Regional Hospital call Antonio Musa. When a Friend told me that San Pedro was going to have a new Regional Hospital, I tough O WAO. Now The UCE students will benefit even more.
Then I find out that they actually started building the Hospital in
1979, and that basically the same people, the sysytem in a different building.
Again I agree with the above statement
