Hmmm. Interesting thread. I thought our school forum was dramatic at times, but I guess that is all relative. Anyway, I followed October here to see some of his other posts, and just happened to see this one.

I think it is safe to say that different people in any school will have different views based of their personal experiences. I hope you all make the best of your time there, as each foreign school has its own unique experiences... including many good ones.

Ok ok.. I am a student here at UNIBE. I don't own anything here except my books. There are many people whom I know personally to be great doctors that have graduated from here and that are currently in residencies.

Some of my professors are EXCELLENT like my anatomy professor for example. I can honestly say that a US medical student has not learned more anatomy than me in this semester.

Some teachers not so good so you need to be self-motivated which is something you should already know if you have read a few of these threads.

Come visit for yourself as I did and see for yourself. Don't ask UNIBE dropouts for advice.

my 2 cents. youre paranoia and overexaggeration of fear and phobias of the DR is a reflection of what type of MD you might become one day. It reflects a fear that might very well be transferred to the patient you are trying to help and not be frightened.
You might be fearful/ incapable of coping with a physicians' daily menu like the sorrowful Facts of life like dying and misery and discomfort and the unknown.
A physician must be unafraid, risk taking, committed to not frightening the patient and be open minded to new and innovative measures all intended on helping the patient. You are an easily frightened individual. I beg you to see the metaphor i am designing here. These horrible things have happened to me all over the world but were the extreme exception and not the rule. to see where i have been

I wish I was a psyciatrist

That way I would know everything, be cynical as hell, and be able to personally insult everyone and discredit their day to day observations from what they write in an internet forum. Then IŽd tell everybody they are dilusional for claiming to see what they experience in their daily life from 3000 miles away. And then IŽd be beyond reproach, because, after all I would be a psyciatrist, and IŽd know everything.

WOW GLDFISHWRLD..or whatever it is get a life...stop being such a girl

The DR was the best time of my life, aahhhh the good days. There is no other island, that can offer you the life that DR has to offer.

Btw that girl that was murdered, I knew her very well. And it was a horrific thing, but that does not represent the country.

if anything I felt very very very safe walking around late at night in my barrio. My neighbors knew me, the colmado guys knew me, the cops on the corner knew me, even the shoe shine boys on the corner knew me, and we all looked out for one another. And I lived about 15 min walk from the school. And one time a thief tried to rob another students apartment...the WHOLE NEIGHBORHOOD came out and literally beat this guy down, tied him, kicked him around a lil more, and then sent him off to the jail. I miss that family barrio feeling which you dont find in other places.

Ahhh it was a such a good life.
