Would it be better since I can gain Citizenship for DR (I'm Dominican), and I have many relatives over there?

I have a couple undergrad courses completed however not too many of the pre-reqs done. I have like a 3.8 GPA... I'm thinking of doing one more year here in US and then going to Carrib for DR med schooling.

I would finish and get my degree here, but unfortunately I did horrible when I graduated. I never went to class and dropped out of college. If I were to wait and get my degree, it would be as if I were in undergrad for about 6-7 yrs ! SO completing 1 or 2 semesters of pre-reqs over there doesn't sound too bad AFTER I put A LOT of thought into it..

Get out of DR and try to get into an USA medschool.

do u know of any other med schools in USA taht would accept you straight from highschool? like UNIBE accepts highschool students straight into premed, and what are the chacnes of getting into UNIBE premed program if your an 80-90% average student in a canadaian highschool?

Why waste your time at a college or obtatining a 4 year degree in the US? I went to school in the US for 5 years obtaining a bachelor's degree in Biology for what? I'm not planning to be a biologist or planning to go to the rain forest looking for butterflies, come on!

Come here to UNIBE. Start at pre-med 1, walk out with your MD degree in 5 years, and go home to the US and practice medicine (after passing your boards obviosuly.. yadda...yadda..yadda).

Most people here that started in med 1 have wondered the same and that is why didn't they come here years ago?

I'll give you another reason: no MCAT's! Need I say more?

Hey skull just saw your request for help. I was a student at UTESA for my premed and later transfer do to UCE to do my medical part of the program. Reason I tranfered was UTESA did not have the loan program intact. I tried to help them get approved even took the time to call the Foreign Schools Team to give them my opinion but the end result was NEGATIVE.
When I was at UTESA I was paying 1,500.00 US soon after they jacked up the price for the sememster to what it is now 2,500.00 thinking they were going to recieve Federal Loan approval unfortunalty that was not the end result.
I graduated from UCE two years ago. I am still here completing a Masters In Public Health at the same university and at the same time preparing for Step I of the USMLE. I had also applied at UNIBE but what ever the reason I was not accepted into their program.
As a Student with some experience I will tell you that once you are here forget how things are back home. You are on your own when you get here. "Laws" as far as students are not applicable and you should decide wisely as to where you want to be 5 to 6 years from the day you are registered. Transfering is not a problem if you think you would like to go to an other school however, that is a price to pay when transfering from one school to an other. When entering into a university here your documents have to be sent to the Government office that over sees any papers coming from outside the Island and yes there is a fee for that too more Dollars.
You were informed about UTESA they still do not have Federal loans to speak of.
UCE does as UNIBE, there are two accedemic sememsters at both meaning you will recieve two federal checks. Depending on the amount you request will depend on the split in the amount of the checks evenly. There is a max of 25,500 per year, now the federal will not loan you the total amount therefore you will have to apply for either SallieMae or what ever private loan program they might offer to get you the full amount. If I am not mistaken ther amount now is 20,500 per sememster for fedreral loans.
As for universities they are pretty much the same and Ozzy was up on that. Your Medical Degree holds the same value out side the DR. The difference is where you plan to do your residency and what state you plan to eventually set you private practice in the end.
UNBE is in Santo Domingo which is the Capital very fast and cluttered.
UCE is in a small city about 45 minutes east of Santo Domingo. It takes getting use too but livable. As I mentioned I lived in Santo Domingo and to add 2 1/2 years and in San Pedro 5 1/2 life is what you make it to be.
As for Travel my first years in Santo Domingo I basicly walked most of it. it wasn't until I was in San Pedro a year later that I bought a vehicle. I owned an 1985 Izuzu Trooper, bought it from a Fellow student very ecconomical and sturdy. I sold it three months before I was aware I was to stay for two more year esle I would not sell it. I own a Scooter (Honda Lead) not bad but remember I have experience of road rules which there are none. You have to make sure what the other is doing so eyes on the road at all times. I also have an 86 Nissan which I am selling because I do not use it. I find that I have no need for it and besides I am leaving soon so I have to start liquidating my personal items that I am not or taking with me.
Living expenses, Ozzy was on the money again. It all depends on your life style that you will acquire while you are here and not what it was back home. You are in the Land Of Oz and things are not what they seem. You will be fresh meat to the vultures so on your guard at all times. No jewelry at least none that are visual they tend to attract attention. Not that I want to scare you just giving you a feel of what might be once you are here. As I said I have been here for 8 plus years and have never gotten sick or been in any sort of confrontation in anyway, shape or form.
