TO UCE students

Hello

If You Dont Speak Spanish Do Not Waste Your Time Or Money Going Into Uce ( Doesnt make any sense to spend 100k or more for a medical career in a place like San Pedro). There Are Many Places That Are Far Better (like Unibe, Uag In Mexico, Caribbean Medical Schools) To Learn Medicine If You Speak English Only. If You Want To Learn Spanish You Can Do It At Unibe Or Uag In Mexico.

There are quite a few folks here at UCE that started off not knowing one word of spanish and now they are doing quite well. Sure, its tough at first and it will take a while to learn, but it is very doable. The university offers spanish classes in the morning at no extra cost to you and there are plentyof english speaking students to help you around. The professors tend to be lenient with you in the first few semesters as the completely understand your situation.

Bottom line is that you wont be the first non-spanish speaker that arrives at this University, you'll be fine!

My personal take ; rather than spend big bucks at UCE and have to learn spanish, look into state schools in bolivia, ecuador, chile, peru that will cost u next to nothing, and are not set up to attract US dollars, as was UCE medical school. these state schools will not be blacklisted by us state licensure boards as they are not percieved as threats. if u want to stay in DR look into unphu, intec, ucamima, unibe first. i do not very much like santo domingo these days as all the roadways and construction makes it look more like the bronx than the lovely city i knew. i cannot deny those years were among the best of my life. many great classmates, teachers, friends, so what my colombian roomate corrected my spanish.

if i had 2 do it again i would live in the country studying/speaking spanish first priot to medical studies.

quito is a lovely quaint relaxed city with established universities. cost of living is not bad. coast is a close drive and has nice beaches and waves if u surf. quito has snow capped mountains and is a climbers haven (not to be c/w everest or k2) great weather and clear spanish.

Hey elly i couldnt agree more, i have recently finished at uce, and to tell you the truth i wouldn't recomend that school for anyone else, its just not professional enough. And if you dont speak any spanish its gonna be hard on you..my advice is go to unibe, they have an english speaking program.

Felicidades!
2 things concern me about your remark.
1. What do you mean not professional enough?
Medical school=books, memorizing, passing tests to get back to USA & getting that paper with your MD on it.
What does professional have to do with this? You learn to be
a doctor in your residency and more than likely after that....
not in medical school. You become a professional here at home
in your profession depending how you practice, what your attitude
is and how professional you want to be.

2. You belittle and minimize a knowledge of Espanol. After all these years
unless you did not take advantage and learn it which i think is a
humongous mistake, Spanish is not only important in the big Cities
but soon to rival English as the main language spoken here. A job for you
in residency I can guarantee you is yours ( all other things being equal)
if you speak Spanish. Telling someone to go to UNIBE because the course is in Spanish is IMHO :"assinine" and not really looking at the whole picture. Learn your basic medical and clinical and SPANISH!
A world of opportunity then will open up for you.

UCE was voted WORST medical school in 1994 times

There was an atricle about this school. Imagine a school that has obvious plants on this site that are trying to defend it.

UCE was selling degrees during the 80's!!!!
so don't be so proud of attending that school

All us folks: smart, inquisitive and psychologically sophisticated individuals are wondering what is this incessant need you have to demean and belittle a school that has graduated hundreds ( 100's) of Top Notch practicing Physicians in the United States of America. Many run US Emergency Rooms, residency programs, the list goes on and on and on.
UCE grads are healing US citizens this is certain.
Why not admit the problem you personally have had with UCE and lets have a conversation not a war. You sound angry and revengeful over something that transpired in the past.
These puerile attacks certainly give you ephemeral satisfaction, but what longlasting ongoing need is there to continue this losing battle.

...an angry troll that, perhaps, even with UCE's lenient acceptance policy- could not get into the medical program.
