Advice needed from Derek Sampson, MD
Hi, Im new at this. I am considering attending INTEC in the Dominican Republic. I am 34yrs old and have a opportunity to achieve this dream. I have many obstacles in my way. One major one is that I have arthiritis on my right ankle. I have had this problem for 10yrs now. I was attending to become a LPN when I was diagnosed, had only 6 month to go when the pain got so severe that I couldn't walk at all. Ten years later the pain has not gotten any better but my resistance to pain has. I dont fear the inablility to achieve this goal. I already have a place to live near the school and my son will be attended by my parents until he finishes 8th grade, a year from now.He will then join me.
My concern is fear that after all the scacrifice I would not obtain a match for residency. I dont know the statistic in regards to American students who study abroad. I am attending INTEC due to finiances. There is a special catagory which I can attend the school as a Domincan due to my mother. Any child born of a Dominican resident can attend INTEC as a Dominican and pay tuition fee as such. I need to know exactly how difficult it is to get into a residency in the U.S., I am attending Community College to obtain an A.S in Radiology Tech. I was advices by counselor that I will be graduating from this program(a 2yr program) not until 2008. Thats four years form now. I could take that time and go study at INTEC. Any suggestion Please HELP! |

Read my posts
Hello,
If you read all my previous posts, especially my "Life after UNIBE" post, it should answer 99%of your questions. If you are looking for some statistical guarantee, you're NOT going to get it, so don't ask. Anytime you go offshore, it is a risk, but you stack the odds in your favor by studying hard, conquering those demons (whether they be academic, personal, psychological, etc.) BEFORE you go offshore, and not believing the bullpooh pooh of the negative naysayers out there. So if thats what you want to do, go for it. As the old saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained". PEACE!! -Derek
