Thread: Can anyone tell me about trinity college in Dublin

I wanna apply to Trinity college in Dublin and I am a mature applicant with only an A.S. from an American college, which I guess puts me in a position to apply to the 6 year program of Trinity.

My question is: Once i get accepted into the 6 year program, am I actually being accepted into the professional med poragram or is it some sort of pre-requisite program after the completion of which, I need to take a comprehensive exam to get into the professional program.

Also, any feedback on application itself; What does the adimission committee look for in the essay " What makes you an asset to our med school". I've never seen this kind of question before. Any ideas on what might be some good things to include in the essay.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I applied and got into the 6 year program 2 years ago but they gave me a 1 year exemption so it was only 5 years. From what I remember all I had to do is send in my application with transcript and I got an acceptance letter...I didn't even have to write an essay...it must be a new rule.

In countries like Ireland/Australia HECK THE REST OF THE WORLD NOT INCLUDING CANADA AND THE US all medical degrees are 6 years long. Some countries have introduced 4 year programs but this is far from being the norm. You are going to get a world class medical education NOT SOME PREREQ PROGRAM!

The thing I liked about Trinity is that they set you up with a family from the first year (my current school also does this...) and you follow them around. The first year of Trinity will be maths/physics etc...so it may be not be as medically orientated as some other schools' first year.

As for your admissions essay I think it's only a consideration for ppl. who don't quite make the cutoff grades but they still want to consider for admissions. That being said the best thing to do is just be honest...they can spot a fake from a kilometre a way. Best of luck.

However, the tutuin fee at Trinity for the 2004/2005 is 22,000 Eros per, which with the current exchange rate is about 26,000 US.

So there's about 7,500 US that I've got to cover by other loans. I know that there's an international student loan but it's a credit-based loan and with my credit history, I doubt, I could qualify for it.

Can you tell me if as an internatioanl student I'd be able to work while going to school. Dublin seems to be a vibrant community, perhaps if I can get a part/full time job in Dublin, I could make up for the 7,500 US.
Also, does the school in Trinity want you to pay up front for the entire year or can you make monthly payments while attending the school? In other words, does the school offer a payment plan?

If you can briefly walk me through the living expenses in Dublin, I'd get a better idea whether I can truly make it or not.

This the info I had two years ago so it's probably outdated. I only know prices in Punts because that's what they were using at the time. As for your ablility to work I'm not sure. But they required a lot of the money upfront...at least the 14,000 Punts which I think was the tuition fee at the time. I doubt they will have a loan repayment program...but you can always try. I can't tell you about cost of living b/c I didn't end up going but I can tell you it's pretty expensive. Living in an apartment there was about twice/three times more expensive than what I'm paying in Australia..but I'm told it's expensive living in Apartments in the US as well...so maybe it's comparable??

Can you tell me what the prerequisites are for Trinity. Are they the same as the U.S. schools?

a lot of us and canadians apply with baccalaureate degrees even for six year program so ur chances could be quite slim.

yes u will be expected to have high gpa 3.4 or higher but u dont need mcat

no non eu students are not allowed to work while studying in ireland,same as us rules really
