Thread: Want to study medicine in UK and need information please :)

Ok so I want to study medicine in England.

My GCSE grades weren't that great since I skipped a lot of classes and wasn't really focused on my studies at that time. I got 1A*, 1A, 2B's, 2C's and 2D's. The D's being in English and Biology but I am going to be giving them again at AS so I will be making up for them. Also having a French nationality, I am going to be giving my IELTS as well which justifies my D in English.

I am expecting AAA grades in A levels Bio, Chem and Physics.

My question is - If I apply to a university that provides both regular entry programs as well as foundation year entry programs, if I fail to make the regular entry list, will the university automatically put me in for the foundation year or will I be rejected?

You will be rejected.The foundation programme is meant for people Who did extremely well but in other subjects...Like... 3 A*s in History,Physics and Maths when they all ask for Biology,Chemistry and an extra subject.Don't forget that the 6 year programmes are very competitive,and students need to prove that medicine is the right career for them with extra class activities and voluntary work since they chose a different pathway.So...Choose the right A levels,get an A in everything and apply to a traditional programme.

Yup you were right.

I sent an e-mail to University of Manchester and they said that I will be rejected for their program as my GCSE grades don't match up..

Looking into other uni's and I have mailed four now.

You will not get into a foundation program at all - it's purely for students with AAA or AAB in other non science subjects.
You can try to apply for 5 year or 6 year programs (non foundation yr), you have nothing lose apart from the small application fee. Look through the entry requirements and see which may accept your grades. You really need to retake your English though, I doubt anybody would accept you in the UK with a D in English and Biology.

Since university fees went up you can still try, they may need more $$ from international students, although I would still think there would be many others with better grades. Good Luck
