Thread: Ireland 6 year program

I just applied to UCD, and Galway for the 6 year program. I was wondering if anyone is in the 6 year program, or is anyone planning to apply.

Is it difficult to get into the 6 year program. I am an older student, and high school grades were okay, but not great. I am currently in my first year of college and have a 4.0 in Bio, Chem, Calculus, Psyc, etc. Will they look at my college GPA, or will my high school transcripts come back to bite me? What can I add to the application or my essay to spark their interest in me and give me a chance?

I also was wondering what is the average number of schools people usually apply to? I have 4-5 schools I am looking into, and I am worried that it may not be enough.

Well.. Medicine is offered at five schools in Ireland (Plus one in Northern Ireland). I guess you could apply to all six of them, to maximize your chances

University College, Dublin

Well I am a high school student... so I applied to the three schools that offfer the 6 year program and dont trquire the mcat. Anxiously waiting results....

I thought getting into an enlgish medical school was very hard for any one not from england?

I have a bachelors with a poor gpa, is a 6 year program pretty much out of the question.

Im pretty sure, like the rest of the Commonwealth countries, that the 6 year program is made for undergraduates. So, while it wont be out of the question, you will be competing heavily, and a poor GPA doesnt help.

Congrats! That is exciting. I wanted to apply for RCSI, but the tuition is a little too steep for me. When did you apply, and how long was it before you were interviewed? How were your grades and what subjects did you study in high school (AP courses)?

I am an older student in college for the first time and I am taking the required classes (Bio, Chem,Physics) now because it has been so long since high school. When I was in high school I had no aspirations to become a doctor, so I did not take advanced Bio or Chem. I am maintaining a 4.0, but my Biology and Chemistry grades will not be complete until the semester ends in May. I hope that they will take that into consideration.

I was late in applying, and I hope that doesn't hurt my chances of getting in.
