Thread: how dificult is the english medical programme at comenius bratislava?

hi,i was just wondering if anyone attended the general medicine programme at comenius univ in slovakia and what they thought of it?,how difficult is it? i mean do a lot of student fail,particulalry in the 2nd year...any subject particulalry tricky? any help would be appreciated thanks!

I responded to your pm so the main response to your query is there. But for the record, we have the same issues that you do at Charles. 3rd is our toughest year - just a lot of heavy subjects with Pathology being a real weeder. Truly only those students fail who deserve to - ie they didn't do any work. I personally think it is hard to fail if you study - something... anything...

are you honestly asking how hard medical school is?? I should hope that the slovakian medical school is just as hard as US schools or anyother medical schools for that matter... Medical school is supposed to be hard, otherwise everyone would be a doc. You can't be seriously looking for an easy medical school... to be a good doctor you have to work your butt off, if the medical school is easy it's making crappy docs.

Seems everything is relative as "beauty is in the eye of the beholder"

There are those who will say medical college was not hard. Others will say terribly hard. Some are in between.

A friend of mine that got into a NYC school and later went on to ortho always says it wasn't hard or even very challenging. His classmates at Downstate were indeed perplexed as it seemed he'd always have a "surfer magazine" in hand. We both agree that what was truly hard were the old days training schedule and number of hours without sleep; cruel and inhumane to be more precise.

I personally thought there were some classes worse than others. For instance, classical anatomy (a female dog of memorization) the book by the French anatomist Rouviere translated into Spanish on my left, an english-spanish dictionary on my right. Anatomy was a 3 semester course.
With a decent study routine, classes become more and more routine. Clinical labs and rotations could even be "fun"

we emerged withmedical degrees and many of us, fluency in high level Spanish, degree equivalent.



To make a long story short, it's what YOU make of it.

FYI; there is an anatomy museum in Paris co\containing the work of Rouviere. You don't see a Grey's anatomy museum do you?

You totally missunderstood my statement.. All I am saying is that the difficulty of a medical school should be the same no matter what school you go to, since all medical schools train doctors, each doctor no matter where they went to school should have the same knowledge. Sure some people will find medical school easy others will find it hard but the curriculum should be the same. But the poster seems to be picking his school by comparing how hard the curriculum is, thus I said I hope for the sake of the school it's a hard curriculum because then that school will have smart graduates and thus build a reputation for itself.
