so what gives them the right to verify the grades or proctor exams if they are not representatives of tyhe school?

it doesn't matter anyeay because the 'set up' as you say it that is a contract between the student and the mentor is the core of the problem.. i can get a friend of mine to 'mentor' me and not show up and wonderously get 100% on every single test...maybe take the online exams open book, or discuss with the mentor while answering?

The mentors only evaluate the student

The mentors only evaluate and coach the student, and the school ultimately grades them. Following your logics of who gives a right to proctor exams, PROMETIRCS or SYLVAN administers the USMLE and are NOT representatives of the ECFMG. You follow now?

I agree with the set-up issue, nobody is guaranteeing quality assurance much less quality control.

there is a real difference. prometric and sylvan are contracted by the medical boards to oversee the process, the student is not involved where as in the metor arrangement, it is the student that is contracting his teacher...

in your scenario i could go out and contract a prometric site to proctor my exam...maybe i can make sure my brother runs the place and my uncle sends my exam in?

Well

"maybe i can make sure my brother runs the place and my uncle sends my exam in?[/quote]"

Rumors in another thread is that is what is going on in India, check the thread out, under Cheating on the USMLE in the Relaxing Lounge.

Back to our subject, no matter how bad you want to prove that the school has presence by having students retain independently a mentor of his own choice under his own schedule under his own terms being paid by the student and not the school, non of your arguments is substantive. The mentor must be an employee of the school, unequivocaly, not just someone that the student got to coach him on his own.

"the student is not involved where as in the metor arrangement, it is the student that is contracting his teacher..." You just said it. You see?

Thanks

Max

Yep, big quality assurance issues...

....reason why these sort of programs are so unpopular among state licensing boards.

Bright side

Look at the bright side Oceania students, apparently the government of Samoa will allow graduates of Oceania to attend a 1 year internship and receive licensure in Samoa upon completion.

There you go!! You can live the dream of being a fully licensed general practitioner in Samoa.
