I wish that they would realize what a crazy policy that is. I'm from Texas, and I can tell you there is a shortage of doctors there, especially in rural areas.

What about other carib grads?

Are Ross grads the only ones being denied now in Texas? What about SGU or AUC grads...? I hope they are not just singling out Ross. I might be going there myself. I sure as heck dont want to practice in TX but I want the option to.

hmmm

i dont believe that is true. It is currently case by case... with much difficulty...the exception is Ross which is currently not allowed licensure in TX.

That is my understanding... not 100% on this though, but this is what I have deduced..... if you can really deduce anything on this topic.

We were told in our 4th semester meeting that no caribbean school can have new lisenced docs in texas. If they have already been lisenced then they are OK. Ross is working with SGU to get the Texas issue resolved, but as of now, from what we were told and the fact that SGU is working with Ross so they can get lisenced, no caribbean grads can be lisenced in TX.

You were told correctly. They are working on formulating an approval system of offshore medical schools.

where does it say Ross is banned?

People apply for licensure and either get it or they dont. Whether or not they will be licensed, depends on whether or not they meet the licensure requirements. Texas has some "different" things they require which make it a bit trickier, and which students should be aware of DURING med school, so they dont wipe out their chances for licensure later. As an example, each core and elective must be done in an area offering anACGME residency in THAT SPECIFIC core or elective. If you dont follow this, you'll miss your chance for licensure right there. Also, you cant do cores or electives in Texas if you want to eventually be licensed there. Strange but true. Do all your training elsewhere.

You have to go to the Texas board's website, and print off a copy specifically the fmg stuff. And use it as a guide through med school!

I do want to know though, what all the talk is about Ross grads not being licensed...the grads must not have done the above, and therefore not been eligible. In the discussions I've had with reps from the Texas board, it IS a case by case thing. No where is it written that Ross grads will not be licensed...

Please add your thoughts ...

Jules

your problem is that you don't want to get a rejection because it then must be disclosed to other states you apply to. Better to wait in Texas until they make their policy known. anything else risks you getting rejected. I attended their August Board meeting and spoke,at the Board's request, on offshore schools and attended a closed session.

texas

Their next meeting is in January...the results of that meeting will be available to view online the following September.

Since there have been no changes in the last couple of months, and there wont be until January, I still dont understand why there is this discussion of "no Caribbean grads will be licensed in Texas"...

I have had discussions with people on the licensure committee, RECENTLY, and with no changes being made lately, how is any of that possible? For those saying no new off-shore med grads will be licensed, please come forward and elaborate a bit on why you're saying this. Thanks.
