Hi.
I just happened to see the recent discussions regarding the school and was shocked. Frankly, these look like someone is out to take out a personal vengeance. I am a current student of this school and have found everything satisfactory; especially considering the fact that the school is still so new. The school is providing an education of very high standard; and actually preparing students to face the Boards; unlike many other medical schools in the Caribbean. I think this is what should matter to anyone who wishes to join this school... |

It is sad that some people are out there to destroy peoples careers for their own personal gains. Wishing all the students at St. Theresa the best in the coming new year. Study hard!

Wilkoff, honestly, what personal gain would anyone get? The "allegation" is from a legit newspaper. Since you are a current student, you should certainly read it. The fact is the school is not WHO listed. I don't know the exact details of one get licenced. However, I believe the school has to be WHO listed for one to get licenced in the states. I do feel bad for any current students that is studying there. I sincerely hope anyone studying aboard to get licenced one day. That is the goal. However, I just feel informed information must be available to share. The article is legit and I was shocked to find out the serious "potential fraud" that the school owners "may have" according to the Pittsburgh paper. Yes, all carribean schools are for profit. Yes, they just want your money. However, the school has to have "minimal" standards such as have "legitimate" creditials of faculties. I do wish the allegations is wrong. That is why I ask the Officials if there is any misunderstandings. I believe if the newspaper makes the mistake, they can simply stating that. It is their choice. However, I feel any current student or "serious perspective student" should get this clear. You want to spend thousands of money on this school without an explaination? I find it hard to believe.
I could not think of any reason for "personal gain". However, I feel this is a relatively very new school with serious "potential allegatations" from a legit newspaper. The medical school is not WHO listed and they have not graduated a single pharmacist. I wonder the risk for anyone to invest thousands of dollars. I feel an expaination is not too much to ask for. No one answers that. |

Actually, the WHO list has basically been discontinued. Rather, the ECFMG relies on IMED from FAIMER (wow, four abbreviations in one sentence). List is searchable at IMED - FAIMER International Medical Education Directory
And St. Theresa's IS listed in IMED, which makes grads eligible to apply for the USMLE through ECFMG. However, do note that St. Kitt's & Nevis has no less than five IMED-listed schools. Pretty impressive for a nation of less than 39,000 souls. Personally, I do not fully understand why people would want to trust their future to a school which cannot point to a single graduated student, and basically has no track record whatsoever (apart from the highly dubious records of several senior officials, apparently). But to each their own. Do note, however, that legislation is considered in Congress which would significantly reduce the number of US Residencies (which are essentially federally funded). If that would happen, it would invariably SEVERELY hit anybody graduating from a foreign medical school, including ALL the Carib schools, and the less well established would, all other things being equal, be hardest hit. |

doubt it
Quote:
this ridiculous rumor was around in 2003 when i started and some of our vmd elders pointed that it had been around alot longer than that... what can actually happen is the continued expansion of US schools..which is not in fantasy land and is actually happening, that couold affect several hundred residency positions in the next decade but even then it will not cut out the thousands of openings.... to keep on semi topic...yes stay away from st theresa or any unproven school until they can give you something to hold on to other than propose campuses and groundbreaking ceremonies. if going to this school type is your only choice consider gong back to school and bringing your gpa up its not like the semi reputable schools have 'strict' standards. they letme in after all. all else fails go knowing there is risk you may end up teaching biology like my undergrad TA who graduated from one of these smaller schools, that one went our of business i think.... buyer beware
