One question

How heavily is experience weighted on the application? My GPA is kind of low (2.9) but i have about 4 years of experience at a clinic, which includes alot of exotic animal experience as well.

I can't speak for SMU in particular because I am at SGU, but in general, the Carib schools weigh experience much more than US schools.

The only way to find out is apply.

Thumbs up all welcome

Several months ago the faculty tried to elbow their way into the admission committee, but were only allowed in as non-voting members. Their suggestions to reject some applicants were over-ruled and the word came from the adminitration that no applicant would be rejected. This is straight form the horses' mouths, that is, several of the faculty members who have left during the past year, partially becasue of such policies. So, go for it!

Ah, here comes the rumor mill! All you need to know is that the professors who have left are being replaced. And in my opinion they are better people for the job.

As St. Matthew's grows, the applicant pool will as well. Do you think that Ross and St. George's started out by rejecting people? Absolutely not. Instead, they actively seeked out students. In the 1990s Ross University sent my father, a veterinarian, a letter about their school. And in the letter it says that if one of his children decides to pursue veterinary medicine then please consider Ross University. I was about 12 when this letter was mailed. Talk about planning ahead! I doubt that they send letters like this now that the school has been built up.

If you can get into the states with a 2.9, great. If not, it's time to take a chance and come down here. Whichever school you choose will be a considerable financial risk. These schools don't promise anything. They give you the tools to succeed and it is up to the student to use them.

I hope this helps. Just ignore the negative people and their comments. The students who talk like that almost always have the lowest grades.

P.S. - Out of all the veterinary schools I applied to, this was the only one who asked me about my research in the interview. So yes, experience is heavily considered.
