I just wanted everyone to know that although Skidoc pretends to be a tough guy by inviting people down to Cayman for Subdural and Epidural hematomas. ( A topic he probably learned about last week since he was a "lazy-pizza bum" last semester ) In real life, he is quite sensitive wouldn't kill a scorpian to save his own life.

P.S. Please don't post back denying anything that I've said is false because you know it's all true

block finals

Is it true that we will have all 3 Shelf exam finals on Monday?

It's bad enough having 2 exams in one day, let alone 3 SHELF EXAMS in one day!!

That is crazy! Three shelf exams...that's more questions than the Step 1 exam. Two of them I can understand...Three is excessive in one day.

Of course it's crazy..It's interfering with my ability to get underway.

All kidding aside.. This semester the students are getting the same amount of material crammed into 3 tests instead of 4. Having most of them on the same day, is inane.

Then the shelf is coming along..All the shelf exams. It will be interesting to see how the scores are used..
I take the man (Dr N) at his word, when he says just pass the course, and let him worry about the shelf scores. That doesnt mean I like it.

I wish, and this is my personal opinion, that the school had planned this out better. I feel like I m one of Skinner's rats. I don't like feeling like I m part of some test.
I appreciate that the school needs to evaluate the education that its faculty is providing. However, I don't feel it is fair to anyone, that their course grade may hinge on the quality education they are receiving.

This is the same problem that many US med students have. Their final grade is dependent on a final subject shelf exam. I think that this is just another step that will help SMU students to be better prepared for step 1. I wish we still had the comprehensive shelf, however, because I would like to see my improvement on that exam as well.

And if you're concerned about not being taught enough information and having to learn it all on your own from books...that is the #1 complaint of US medical students as well.

I will say that I do agree that it would be frustrating to ace the class only to make a B or C on the shelf, dropping your final grade an entire letter.

I can understand the desire for the school to have a "black monday". I don't think it is effective though. I prepared for the Step by practicing on my own. Having more than one shelf a day is just plain torture. I remember having a path test in the morning and the comp shelf the same day in the afternoon (in Maine). More planning is needed. Maybe one shelf exam a day, and after all finals were administered.
