    Arrow Transportation

    Hello!
I was wondering if anyone knows how i can get my car shipped to the island... What would be the cheapest yet safest method. I'm trying to transport my car(in the picture above) and my bike for when i start 06'....

Best way to do this is send it to Miami and have it shipped to Cayman.
The cost of shipping is about $1200
You then have to pay import duty once the car is in Cayman.
This is the Blue book value of the car. The duty is 27.5%

DANG, i'd be broke before i even get there...
What if the car has a salvage title and has no value according to Blue book?
    Is there any cheaper way?
Are the roads safe to drive around a dropped car...
In case i have to buy a car there on the island, how much does a normal, nice car cost...?

They do not care about salvage title here.
If you can get a reciept for the price of the vehicle, depending on the mood of the Customs Office you may get away with a less price.
Roads are fine for dropped cars.
Prices vary for an average car you are looking at about $3000 - $5000.
You also go onto Japanees car imports and bring a car in cheaper.

    Hope this helps

So let me get this straight, if i show them the reciept of the car (how much i originally paid for it) they will only charge me duty on that amount since here in U.S, no one can tell you what the real value of a slavage title car would be... I paid FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR less than $5000 ($3400 to be exact for the car in my profile) so you think they would charge me duty only on $3400 considering that i am also a student????

Thanks, but is not really offical yet. I had my interview and they said that they do not see any reason why i should not get a good news from them soon.... So based on that statement, i am getting ready to start In jan 06...

Getting in was first step, getting prepared is second and i am working on it...

    Hope this helps...

I just shipped my car out of MIA. I used Seaboard Marine. It cost $1200 to ship as mentioned in a previous post. However, it is a HUGE pain to deal with everything. First, you have to clear it with the shipping company here. Following that, you fill out papers at the customs office, and then wait for a few hours in line. They then have to inspect and price your car. Then you go to the port authority warehouse and pay another fee and then wait for them to find your car and bring it out. You then have to go get insurance before you get plates. However, you must have a driver's license before you can get plates. Basically you'd be paying close to equal your car's value to have it here since customs adds the $1200 shipping ON TOP of your "car price", and then takes 27.5% of that. Not only that, but I guarrantee you waste at least a day and a half. If I were you, I'd buy a car here unless you REALLY want to have your car.

so what kind of a car did you get and now much in total did you end up spending... I am just trying to get an idea of how much i would have to spend... trying to figure out if i really LOVE my car enough to go through all the trouble and spend more money than what i have already spent....
How much was your insurance... I am in low 20's (age) and i bet insurance would be high as hell too.... I really dont want my babie behind (and my car of course) because there would be no one here to take care of it and i cannot even think of selling it after all the time and money i have spent on it.... Leaving it behind would probably the ONLY think that would hurt me the most....

If you've customized your car, they may value it at a lot more. Insurance is tough to get if you're under 23. They then look at engine capacity for how much your insurance would cost. My car is a two door with a V6, so they considered it a sports car, and let me tell you my car is no Porsche... My insurance is around $1200US...ouch. I had friends that got insurance for about $500US, but they have small and "safe" cars. The plates, driver's license, shipping, and duties set me back around $3800 US. THEN INSURANCE!!! Hey, it's a one time deal. If you've got the money do it. You can buy something cheaper here. They have BMW convertibles to Diahatsu "can I actually fit in there?" cars. Whether it breaks down or the wheel falls off like I've heard about some fellow students' cars--you'd have to see.
