PIn addition to the expenses of the land line phone, it will take the phone people almost a month to get out to you. Same goes for internet and cable. Took well over a month to get internet hooked up in their house. Just be prepared for a wait because nothing ever gets done in a quick manner in Cayman

As a student who is going to be 4th semester, let me give you incoming guys some advice:
You can easily get by w/out a printer...the only time you might need it is if you are in the Masters program and need to print your documents... When you first get to Cayman, you will have to register your computer with the school...at that time, you can create a printing account with the school (i.e., for $5.00, $10.00, etc.) and everytime you need to print a document, you can just print in the library... As far as school supplies are concerned, I would definetely buy them from Wal-Mart back home... All the prices are in CI at the Kirk's grocery store and Foster's Food Fair, and so things will be expensive once you convert the prices to US dollars... American products in the Cayman Islands are very expensive...here's an example...a box of granola bars and poptarts is $3.35 CI each, and once you convert that to US, you have already spent $9.20 US just on 2 boxes of snacks... You could go to the Sam's Club back home or your local Wal-Mart and get 100 granola bars or Pop-Tarts for less money... And as far as electronics are concerned, I would only bring the necessities, such as a blow-dryer, iron, etc. You really won't have time to watch television, listen to music, etc. at least until exams are over...so, there is no reason to bring a television, cd player, etc. Alot of students, such as myself, bring a few cd's and DVD's and only have time to watch them after exams are over... Plus, in the case of a hurricane, if you have to evacuate, you might be forced to leave your television, cd player, etc. on the island Well, I hope this helps, and all the best to you incoming guys this semester!! |
