No I did not read the Ross thread lol. I think one of our SMU threads mentioned bringing some food because not all is available there. After reading everything about prices on the island, everything just blurs and you get the notion that everything is expensive and need to bring it.

...just to make sure..they don't tax food right? (I might as well bring what I have since I already bought 'em)
OK, i take this back..i brought 1/2 of the food that i planned on bringing and i'm glad i did. At least I have emergency food and do not have to spend so much money eating out or buying grocery. So my advice, bring whatever you can, especially ready to eat food from the U.S.

The bottom line is that everything here is expensive.

Do the dorms come with irons and ironing boards? Iam not sure if I need to buy from here and carry it or buy it on the island. I am guessing its cheaper to buy iron in US?

thanks
A lot of students cook, but I myself have only cooked about 3 times in all. The kitchen is outside the dorm, so you'll have to bring everything out there to cook. They have some pots and pans, but I preferred to use mine. There's a Kirk's grocery store that have a lot of international food ingredients, that's near the dorm. Prices are ridiculous with some things. So I honestly did not regret bringing my favourite snacks, and any ready to eat food from home..oh..bring bath soap, shampoo, toothpaste and whatever bath stuff you'll need for the next three months since it's sooo expensive there.

Appliance is expensive in Cayman, bring an iron. You can borrow an ironing board when you get in the dorms..or you can use your bed like I did, it worked well

You can pack an I-Pod or mp3 player to listen to lectures at the gym or grocery. They're now recorded, audio and video. The school uses a program called Apreso, but to save the lecture I had to pay Apple $30 for Quick time pro. As in, I could watch it for free, but to save it I had to pay the $30. Or u can bring your own recorder and record lectures yourself.

well u need to get vonage before you arrive to cayman. Once u get to cayman u can get a digicell phone. Digicell charge about 20 cts a minute. Use digicell to call within the island. And vonage to call outside of the island.

I'm sure you can. But they should charge you extra. Anyways you should get a cell. Just for the convenience factor.

I was just informed that vonage charges you an extra 18 cents a minute to call within the island. This is still less than Digicell. They charge around 20 cents a minute. But you cant always have vonage in your pocket.

Oh and digicell is a pay as you go service. Theres no monthly plan so you dont spend money on minutes you dont use.
