Thanks for the support!

I wanted to clear something up though. I didn't mean that posting on ValueMD is a waste of time. What I was saying is the petty arguments over which medical board is going to grant you a license is pretty moot.

Unless you have been granted a license or know a good friend that has postulating that a medical board will or won't grant you a license (not CA) is a waste of time since we usually won't know what will happen until you actually apply to that particular medical board.

On another note, most physicians do NOT wish to work in the VA system. They do not like the patient population, do not like working with the lazy nursing staff and the biggest draw back (or not) is the relatively low pay.

That means that no, if you looked for a job in the VA system there is a good chance (not slim) that you can get a position. So if that is what you want, go for it! As I see it that is the only way to work as a physician in CA (not counting indian reservations or working as career military)

not sure about cali and VA system. i get emails once in a while from recruiters already and the few i've gotten with things in cali, even by the VA, they want you to hold a license in the state before. the only one that i saw that didn't mention a medical license was on the indian health services website

this is all moot, if you can't work in a state you really want then go to a school that will allow you to do that. squid makes a great point and that is that he knows he may not get back to cali, knew that ahead of time, will try but if it doesn;t work out then he is happy somewhere else

With regards to Texas, Tennessee and New Mexico, don't they accept licence from another state? Say for example you got a licence in New York will it not be accepted in Tennessee?. If not then, does the fact that you actually have a licence in New York helps you in getting a licence in Tennessee?

Can someone please comment on this?

and why only 3 to 5 years?

Also if u can use the licence u got from another sate then ideally you can practice in 48 out of 50 states. Is that right?

you don't "use" a license from another state to practice there. some states allow license "reciprocity" where they will grant you a license in that state if you have a license in another state. not every state does this. some also come with additional requirements like you have to be board certified, your school can't be disapproved by another state, you have to have worked for 5 years with a clean record (this means no lawsuits or complaints or disciplinary actions against you)

basically what it boils down to is that they will look at your appication but they don;t have to approve it. as fgar as texas until smu gets off that disaprroved list you can pretty guaratee you will have a hard time there. tennesse has become increasingly anti img in the last few years, they were officialy using the cali list for a while and now are only using it as a "guideline"

lesson of all this: if your school does not have a few fully licensed grads in teh state you want then there is no guarantee you will work there. even the "easy" states change rules often
