I thought Kansas was on a 15 years rule whereby the university will be recognized after its been in operation for over 15 years. Has it been outright disqualified?

Also looking at the info on the link for Texas, i get the impression that SMU graduates are denied license outright. Whatever happened to Texas putting SMU in questionable institute and reviewing application ion a case by case basis.

There's been tons of Texas talk on here and the language of the rules is a little strange. I'm planning on going back to Texas to practice (and residency) along with a bunch of other people on here. From everything I've read on the TMB rules, I will be able to practice in Texas.

Thats good to hear, I have been reading a lot of smu forum and from so far as i understand it, its only California and indiana where we cant practice. Whats your opinion on kansas, does that still have the 15 year rule or are we disqualified there outright? Personally i wouldn't want to practice in kansas but surely i would like that option open.

Yes, it states on the link "...if the school has not been approved by the
Board, an applicant may still be eligible for a license if the school has not been disapproved and has been in operation (date instruction started) for not less than 15 years." So it looks like the 15 year rule applies to "non-approved schools"

Then there's a separate list of schools below that...
Schools approved by the Board are:
(1) All schools accredited by the Liaison Committee for Medical Eduction (LCME) Liaison Committee on Medical Education Home Page
(2) Universidad Autonom deGuadelajura - Mexico
(3) Aga Khan - Pakistan
(4) American University of the Caribbean - Montserat
(5) SABA University - Netherlands (For graduates who matriculated at the school from
and after January 1, 2002)
No applicant from a school disapproved by the Board is eligible for licensure. Schools that have been disapproved by the Board are:
(1) UTESA - Santa Domingo
(2) UNIREMBOS - Santa Domingo
(3) St. Matthews - British West Indies

some states automatically disapprove a school if another state disapproves it- seems that it is a domino effect form the cali disapproval.

Why would you waste your time coming in the SMU forum to try and down the school? Do you not have enough to do to occupy your time?

Huh?

Actually, if you read through the previous posts, I originally asked how people found out what states follow other states and then posted the only links for states I found that actually kept lists. Somehow, it turned into a Kansas discussion, in which I didn't even realize SMU was listed as disapproved. In no way was I trying to "down" the school, my own cousin graduated and passed step one with over a 90 from SMU who was a PA from Southwestern Medical School.

I am not for or against SMU anyways, I am against individual states boards "banning" an entire school producing graduates who pass the same exams used for those back home.

But to make up for it, I found Florida's link to St. Mathew's approval under "our institutions" in a PDF file, I hope this is for the right school!

Keep reading. ANy state that uses the CA list will also refuse your application. This applies to TN, for instance. Also, verification of your clinical rotations varries from state to state. I completed what SMU says were all "green book" rotations. We'll see what happens when I go for my license in a few months.

License in Texas

Here is the site where it states that even applying for a license in Texas is illegal. A class B Mis. in fact. I don't think that anyone will be applying in Texas very soon.
