RE: stateofequilibrium
Nope, I don't see any logic. What is your logic, why shouldn't you be able to practice in all 50 states if you do at least 3 years residency in US and if you pass all 3 USMLE steps and if you pass clinical skills? Maybe they have different patients or different diseases in CA? I taught that passing USMLE is some kind of guarantee that you know what you are doing as a doc, but I could be wrong.
Anyhow, I don't care about CA at all, just throwing my 2 cents in. Quote:

So what is the deal with SMU and CAli? Are they going to fix this or what? Because I think being denied by Cali effects a bunch of other states now...states that SMU was cool with before aren't cool anymore? Going to get this erased or refreshed or they going to reapply or what?

Student Action on California
So here we are. A year and a half past the CA denial and what steps have been taken? Have we, the student body, done everything that we can do to push the school toward meeting the standards?
I have a sneaking suspicion that if all of us decided that we would stand together, then things would happen and fast. Imagine if the students signed a petition or simply refused to attend anymore? I'll just bet the Florida office wouldn't sleep or leave the island until all was 5x5. Why doesn't the student body write to CA and obtain a list of actions that need to take place before CA will aprove SMU? Why not get proactive here people? We have to be agressive about our education as well as our futures. Why do we continue to pay for an education that will lead to a degree not recognized in a growing number of states? We're working on being denied in a significant portion of the United States now, and that trend is not going in a positive direction. I can name 4 states that have begun to deny us just since I started... all based on the CA decision. Mr. Park of the CA medical board is a member of VMD. Perhaps he could make a list of things that need to happen. It seems to me that as long as students are willing to keep being herded around like sheep and shelling out hundreds of thousands of dollars, schools have no incentive to change. Afterall, if it doesn't affect them, why would they make an extra effort on your behalf. Kindness? So let's get on this. Who is the president of SGA down there. Why is that person not mobilizing the student body to make positive changes in the University? It may already be too late for me, but for those of you still there.... you had better get going before you become the best high school biology teacher your home town ever saw. |

SMU can not sue Ca because most of the report is true, but instead of fixing the problems they are in dream land. Ca clearly stated the diffrence between Cayman and Maine and how the schools should be the same. A YEAR AND A HALF LATER, THINGS ARE STILL WAY DIFFRENT. For starters grading is way off. Cayman has 3 blocks of exams Maine has 6. Cayman has a shelf worth 20% Maine has a shelf worth 10%. Maine makes you drive 20 miles between maine med and windham so that the teachers would not have to. So until the school starts to act like one school it will NEVER get approved by California PERIOD. How hard is it to set one set of policy and stick to it.
