Your right! As soon as IMG's hold themselves to a higher regard we will all be better off. Considering we all have the same end point in mind we should theoretically be able to change our negative conotation of carribean schools over night.

What you think of yourself means little to other people. As an IMG, you should KNOW that you are up to the job. unofrtunately, you often have to prove yourself. G

youre kidding right? Over night? another example of mistaking a wish for the way things might be for the way things actually are. No, stop worrying about these massive social policies. Be a good doctor and this is how it will work. be honest, competant, caring, ie a good doctor and let quiet example lead.

Didnt say anything about it being an instant process. Rather a gradual one. IMG's need to accept the fact that they studied offshore but at the same time not consider it to be disadvantageous or inferior b/c in the end we all will be working together in the medical community

Well, this has gotten very off topic. I posted a list a couple pages back now with all the Yale residencies and none of them had an SMU grad. Should we just assume that the admin there is lying to students (or at least grossly exaggerating)? Did anyone ask for further information as they said they would?

Quote:
Well, lets just take a look here:

Yale residencies:

FP: Yale has no FP residency

ER: http://www.yalesurgery.org/surgery_educ/currentres.html
No SMU grads

Yale New Haven IM (traditional): http://info.med.yale.edu/intmed/prog...housetaff.html
No SMU grads

Yale New Haven/Waterbury IM (primary care): http://info.med.yale.edu/intmed/pcim...housetaff.html
No SMU grads

Yale New Haven OB/GYN: http://info.med.yale.edu/obgyn/training/directory.html
NO SMU Grads

Yale New Haven Orthopedics: No online listing

Yale New Haven Otolaryngology: http://yalesurgery.med.yale.edu/surg...nd%20Staff.htm
No SMU Grads

Yale New Haven Pathology: No online listing

Yale New Haven Pediatrics: http://www.yalepediatrics.org/educat...tml#housestaff
No SMU grads

Yale New Haven Med/Peds: http://www.yalepediatrics.org/educat...tml#housestaff
No SMU grads

Yale New Haven Peds/psych: http://www.yalepediatrics.org/educat...tml#housestaff
No SMU grads

Yale New Haven Psych: no online listing

Yale New haven Surgery: http://yalesurgery.med.yale.edu/surg...urrentres.html
No SMU grads

Now that we know what residency the SMU grad did NOT get. Can someone please find out which one he DID get?

it is probably an affiliated hospital and not yale proper. many people are not aware of the difference even in admin so until someone posts a link i would say assume it is an affiliated hospital.

i posted links to pages showing yale residents from brown, vanderbilt, yale, NYU, chicago etc. and not a single foreign grad so it would be highly unusual for any foreign grad to get in...doesn't mean a smu grad isn't there just that until there is proof it isn't likely.

good going bts...you are finally not taking admins word as gospel..albeit even if it isn't your admin yet it is a start. the next step is to start questioning things on your own turf. have a great break

I think what we need to take from this is this: She got into Yale because she had a vision of doing very well on the step 1 and she followed through with it by studying very hard for it. It only shows that this is possible for any one of us if we believe that we can do it.
This is a reflection of the student more then it is a reflection of SMU. Because there are people who fail out of SMU and we cant blame SMU for that, and the same goes for people who succeed at SMU. SMU gives us the tools to succeed, Ultimately we choose the degree of success.

I think what you are missing is that she didn't get into Yale. She got into a Yale affiliate. The hospital where I did residency had some loose affiliations with Hopkins. I don't delude myself and say that I did residency at Hopkins. G
