nothing should dampen your enthusiams for the success of your grads. But it is important for folks from img schools to be honest. As impolied above, "Yale" may mean Yale-New Haven, which is Yale proper; or it may be a community affiliate such as Norwalk or Griffin. Now these are fine hospitals, but its very misleading to merely say "yale" when one means one of these affiliates. Its important to be accurate for obvious reasons. Also its helpful to know which program. Many places well recognized as fine schools in general have programs that aren't very competitive. Often premeds and students get very excited to hear someone in residency at school X because its "ivy leage" not realizing its not a competitive residency. this doesnt mean its a bad thing but again, students get a little starry-eyed because they don't understand the community well enough, And it works the other way around. For instance many wouldnt get terribly hot and bothered to hear their grads went into, say, U Wisconsin for radonc. But its one of the top programs in the country. "Yale" *sounds* better but people in radonc know U Wisc is a superior training program. Its good to educate yourself so you can make good decisions when its your turn. good luck.

stephew- it makes sense what your saying.
But I personally would rather be in Yale (at the very worst its closer to home for me- NY). I am sure others will differ but Yale has a very storied past and I would "take my chances." |

that was my point.....being from Ct i probably have more knowledge of yale hospitals than anyone not from the area. IF she is doin it at yale med then that is quite an accomplishment.....if she is doing it at griffin hospital, a yale affiliate or bridgeport hospital then no its not a great accomplishment and no one should advertise she's at yale bc anyone who knows the area will know the person is lying and the school is wrong. Again i say if she is at yale congrats, if its a yale affiliate then she is NOT AT YALE!

Sbturner has a couple of weird habits. #1. SMU Cheerleader regardless of the cause (SMU could have failed him/her, but they'd still be awesome for doing it) lol #2. All sbturner's post are titled "stefan"... so dont take it personally. |

Stefan is my name. I do not take it personally. Maybe that comment was not for me. If not, never mind my response. Best wishes!
And, I am not a "cheerleader." I am a leader. I love my school, and that is it. Best wishes! |

Altough Steph is right, but SMU is not the only school to imbelish a type of residency person is doing. For example SGU list 4 people (2001 match list) as going to Mount Sinae school of medicine New York NY, now i checked and there has't been an sgu grad going there for a while if not at all.
