Just thought I would let you know of something I found out recently...I was talking to a doctor who is a FMG, and did his residency at Yale proper for IM, who told me that he applied for an anesthesiologist residency (after being an Internist for a few years) at MMC. He was flat out turned down b/c he was a FMG. So some programs at certain hospitals are FMG unfriendly no matter what. I hear the IM program at MMC is slowly coming around, and the doors are opening for FMGs.

More than likely he was turned down because of reduced funding for residents that have completed another residency. Most programs are not willing to absorb the loss.

you can't say that from such a distance. its very true some places wont take any fmgs. for usually they are the middle tier programs. lower tier ones do because they're happy to get anygood candidate. upper tier will take a chance on a good candidate. middle tier like pedigree.

On what basis are you labeling people to be in these so called "tiers"?

Im not labelling people Im labeling places. Or would you argue that smu=U Nebraska= harvard in terms of competitiveness for admission? you dont honestly think its just as easy or difficult to get into any of these schools and you just chose smu for the fun of it; or that its equally easy to get into neurosurgery as FP or Creighton's residency programs as Johns Hopkins.
you know as well as I do what I mean by tiers.

I agree with Stephew on this one. I did some searching on residency programs, and though Yale may a top tier school for Undergrad, and a few grad programs, it's medical residency program is not.
