dual degree program- is there enough $$

Can others tell me: if you do the masters at St. Luke simultaneously with the medical education to get Stafford loans, is that enough money? I'm worried bc the masters degree itself seems expensive. I get the impression that the cost of housing is very high on the Caymans.

How are the rest of you financing your education? I was denied a credit based loan.

Hmm... im guessing you mean St. Matts? The MHSA degree is approximately 1800 per semester. That is 900 per class and your only allowed to take 2 classes per semester. The cost of housing in GC is expensive. But is just really depends where you want to live and whether or not you plan to have roommates. Were you denied from Teri?
I believe if you did not exceed 23,000 in staffords during undergrad then you should receive some form of aid. If not, you can try a private loan, Sallie Mae signature student loan (www.salliemae.com).
    I hope this helps.
    take care

I dont know if you meant obtaining the SallieMae Signature loan as an SMU student or not, but SMU doesnt have Sallie Mae as a lender. SMU/St Joseph's students who are attending classes IN Windham Maine do have access to Sallie Mae as a lender for additional funding (when you need more than what's available with Stafford... I think up to $5,000? a year).

If you were denied TERI, which a lot of students have been, then go for the Health Xpress Loan. Theyre a lot easier than TERI and you can borrow as long as you havent racked up $300,000 in educational debt (and assuming your credit is decent ie no late payments, defaults and all that other bad stuff).
Do a search on this forum for the contact info for that loan.
    Best of Luck.

    Hey MD999,

Thank you for the clarification. Maybe I confused everyone..
You have access to Sallie Mae signature student loans with the MHSA program, not with SMU. I am not sure why students in Maine would not have access to that loan. I know of some students in Maine that are using Sallie Mae in addition to their stafford loan. I do believe when your in Maine, the amount that Stafford gives you is less? I agree Xpress loan is easier than teri.
