General question regarding admissions to the school

Hey there.....i am new to this website. I have applied to St. Matthews. I have a cum gpa of 2.7 and science gpa of 2.7 and mcat score of 15. I am waiting from a response from the school. What do you guys think? I have tons of volunteer experience. I am really nervous about this whole application process. I am willing to do anything to get into med school. Am I in good shape for St. Matthews? thanx again guys.

Hey Raptor,

Your GPA should not be a problem. I know people that had lower than 2.7 and gained addmission to St. Matt's. As far as your MCATs go, I really can't speculate on what St. Matt's will think. I do know that 15 is a pretty sparce number; however, St. Matt's doesn't require the MCAT for addmission. So, I guess I'm not sure what to say here.

The fact that you have volunteer work is a good resume booster, this should definantly help. I would say you have a good chance, although this is mere SPECULATION on my part. Take care, and if you should have any other questions, please post here or PM me directly. I'm a 1st sem. at St. Matt's. Take care...and relax.

Great advise skidoc-

The bottom line is that you will not know if you dont aply, which you did, and thus, you are in the right track. Dont let anyone tell you you will not succeed. If you get in, great. If you don't go back raise your GPA and aply again until you get in...

Good luck

If you don't gets into st mats apply to Saba but don't report your MCAT scores, you would have a fair chance of admission there but St Mats is the better choice.

Response.

Try not to be too nervous. Right now, there's nothing you can do but wait for a response from one of the schools you applied to. Easier said than done, but why stress out over something that's out of your control? Try to keep a positive attitude and be optimistic. Good luck. Ciao.

Also, if you have summited the application, i would reccomend you to call the schools and asked for the status of your application. That is what i did, and was granted an interview the follwing week.

best of luck

Hey Raptor,

Im also applying at SMU and I'm also waiting. Have you had your interview? How did it go? I'm sure if you do well on your interview your sure to get into the school. I'm still waiting for my interview. Your right, the wait can make some nervous and really anxious. But hopefully, all goes well with ya.
Good luck to you and keep us posted on your application process!!

Wish u the best,

Rapunzel

Wait til you get to the loan part. That caused me FAR more anxiety than the interview/decision wait. Seriously, for all of you that may have ANY negatives on your credit report, and may, at some point, be hoping to attend SMU SOM, go to creditboards.com. Then get to work. For example, with the newest loan, Health Xpress Loan, through Student Loan Xpress, IF you have ANYTHING negative, such as a late payment, etc, EVEN with a FICO score of 785 (like I had), you WILL be denied. And there's NO WAIT there. The anxiety of waiting an appeal FAR EXCEEDS the feeling of a pending decision to SMU SOM. Trust me. Just given all of the hopefuls out there something to do in the meantime. Either way--you win. Get your credit in shape while you wait. Good luck w/ the interview!
