I can't figure this out, if the state in question were North Dakota, Delaware or some place like this, there would be little discussion I'd immagine. I guess I just don't understand why everyone wants California. To each his own I suppose.

SMU has a lot of students that are from California!Hey everyone,

That is why there is a vested interest by many students regrading CA approval, etc.
It doesn't take much to figure this out!
I honestly don't want this to spiral into another thread where people argue about CA. All I would like to know is a simple answer on when approximately the next CA site visit will be.
Ski Doc,
Maybe you are not from California so you really don't care what happens with the licensing in that state. Well there are A LOT of people from California who would like to know what happens with it, because it might give them a chance to go home, also it is an important state to get, because they have the strictest requirements and that really shows your school is up to par or better than most American Schools, like it or not it is an important state to get. As a future doctor you should show compassion and understanding for your fellow man. Just because it does not involve YOU does not mean it does not affect other students. I am sure there will be people who say it does not matter about California, but it really does.
As for a site visit St. Matthew’s will have to figure out what they are going to do, if they take legal action it could take years in court, if they decide to wait and reapply for licensure it will be no earlier that a year or two. So this is going to be a very long process and in the mean time I am sure SMU will only get better.

if a student starts at smu when the school is not ca approved, can the student practice in ca if during his or her studies, the school does obtain approval? or not?
thanks.
In Skidocs defense I must say that he wasn't putting anyone down for wanting to return to Cali. he was merly ASKING why Cali was such a big deal to everyone. At least that's what I got out of the North Dakota repensentation. Maybe there are alot of students here from Cali and that would be very indicative of why people would want to find Cali. approval very important. I personally didn't know that there were alot of students from Cali. but why would I? It's not like everyone has posted where they are from. Either way, to me Cali. approval is important but not because I want to practice there (I don't even care to go to the west coast). To me it's important because coming from a Caribb. school already has it's obstacles and I would pefer not to have to worry about that being another one. However, in the same breath, Cali approval will not keep me from attending St. Matts. From what it appears it will soon be the best school in the Caribbean and I want to be apart of that.

Unfortunatley, NO. Must take ALL basic sciences at an approved school.Originally Posted by miasma

Thanks for clearing that up...guess I haven't run into that many people from Cali. But this brings me to another question. Assuming you want to return to California to practice...why would you choose St. Matt's? And, I honestly didn't mean my previous statement in an offensive way...just trying to understand what all the fuss is about.
Take care everyone!

I've researched this myself. Pat P. of the MBC expresed to me: even if SMU reapplied and there was a visit (hypothetically) next week, the report, decision process, and various other delays, could be 6 - 12 mos. (MIN.) before a another decision was reached. She suggested about the same as JP did (numerous X) with regards to wanting CA and choosing a school.Originally Posted by Jabroni
